Salim Stoudamire Signs With Spurs

Nice signing by the Spurs if you ask me. I like Salim. :clapping:

Nice signing but probably won't be seeing much action considering that Parker, Vaughn are in front of him.

Not bad. Too bad he won't play.

Bonner has his own sub now.

INSIDER 09-23-2008 12:47 PM

he is a scorer... so the spurs get a good pickup.
they need someone who can fill it up when called upon.
fuckin' spurs.

Theyre really gonna miss Brent Barry, this signing is a massive downgrade. He fit perfectly in their system with his unselfishness and his incredible shooting, and he was an above avg team defender as well. Salim hasnt shown himself to be a team guy and he'll be exploited at whichever position he plays because hes undersized for a pg and doesnt have a clue how to run an offence. Theres gonna be a lot more scoring droughts in the Spurs world this year than last with Barry gone. They better hope Masons efforts last year werent just for a contract or theyre screwed. I dont think thats the case because I like Masons game, he was a very solid 2 way role player last year, but if Pop doesnt like him they have no consistant shooting on the floor outside of Ginobili anymore.

Brent Barry has been a shell of his former self the last two or three seasons.

I think this is an excellent acquisition. Pop will set him straight.

i totally agree.
other than a high percentage 3 point shooter, Barry wasnt even close to the player he was in previous years.
not to mention that the guy is 37 years old, his whole 7 ppg wont even matter to SAS.
sure his D was above average, but on a spurs team that thrives on Defense, I'm sure Salim will pick up some new techniques, and wont get left in the dust.
I like this pick up for SAS, they get a young scorer who can come off the bench and provide a lift for them when called upon.
MAnu will start and they need a player who can come in and score.
I dont know if Salim will turn out to be that guy - only time will tell. but i know Barry wasnt going to be that guy.

I like Roger Mason over Salim, but having the added depth can't hurt I suppose. It seems like a down the road kind of signing.

Barry was a shell of him former self but he was the best shooting role players out there and the Spurs played much better in the playoffs with him in the game. The Spurs could space the floor a lot better with him in there and their defence didnt drop all that much either. The positives outweighed the negatives by a lot. Theyre going to miss his shooting and unselfishness bigtime imo.

INSIDER 09-24-2008 02:07 PM

the thing the spurs will miss the most is his veteran presence and his calm demeanor.
but c'mon, this is the spurs we're talking about here... they're no slouch when it comes to veteran leadership and experience... so in the long run, i dont see it bothering them in the slightest.
