Rumour: Lakers/Orlando/Minnesota deal in the works

Trying to use google translation but it's not responding. Don't think this is reliable, but what the hell.....

Se rumora que los Lakers están detrás de Barea - El Nuevo Da

Deal would breakdown this way. If so the wolves get absolutely hosed...

Lakers: Beasley, Barrea & Howard

Magic: Bynum & Derrick Williams

Wolves: Gasol

Dark Knight 02-25-2012 07:18 PM

Excellent deal for Orlando, but I'm still confused why Minny is trying so hard for Gasol...

It makes little sense to give up Williams for an aging Big. Maybe there would be more to this.....picks? Blake?

Yeah, Barea/Williams/Beasley for Gasol makes absolutely no sense. This sounds like bullshit. Even he can't be that stupid!

Ball Don't Lie 02-25-2012 07:35 PM

This only makes sense for ORL.

MIN is 100x better off staying with the Love/Pekovic frontcourt. Pek is 22 with a small salary. Its not like Gasol is the missing piece to their title hopes like he was for LA. If theyre going to trade away Williams they should go after a top tier veteran 2/3. Theyre fine in the frontcourt

ClutchCity 02-25-2012 07:51 PM

This trade makes sense for all 3 teams. ORL gets the best deal but Minni gets a proven big who, under coach Adelman, is going to be an ideal fit next to Love and Rubio. Pek off the bench is scary. They still need a 2 guard and if they can somehow get Redick in the deal, it makes a lot of sense to pull the trigger on the deal. Barea was just insurance incase Rubio didn't pan out. Beasley is being shopped for picks. Losing those two is not a big issue. They are losing Williams, but Williams is regarded as a PF by Adelman and their best player plays PF. Gasol would play C when he's on the floor with Love and play C when he's with Pek. Gasol can legit play both positions. I think it makes sense for Wolves from what I've read on their forums. Also, this deal is GREAT for LA. You get the best big in the league...you get Beasley who can play stretch 4 next to Dwight kind of like Rashard Lewis. They would still need a starting PG, but they would still have the TPE + picks to play with. Also, Beasley is expiring so if it doesn't work out, it's fine. Fisher + Walton also become expiring contracts. Amnesty World Peace. This gives the Lakers the best player in the deal plus great financial flexibility. Trade makes sense for all 3 teams but I don't think it's a legit rumour.

Not that it matters, but the author of this article is the same dude the reported JJ Barea going to Minni before anyone in the US press did. Just saying.

Beasley's worth isn't that great.... Giving up Williams and Beasley is odd, but it's not that big of a deal. Minny would suddenly have a major frontcourt of Pekovic/Gasol with Love/Darko as solid reserves.

but you have to consider barea himself may have leaked his decision to minnesota to this guy before he made the official announcement. so i wont trust it until it's official

Love just signed a 4yr/62Mil contract. That's not reserve type of money.

jeffb 02-25-2012 08:10 PM

If Minnesota got Ebanks in the deal plus a pick i could maybe see it.

Lakers: Beasley, Barea, Howard
Magic: Bynum, D.Williams,
T-Wolves: Gasol, Ebanks, Dallas 2012 1st Rd Pick

Maybe they could amnesty him!

Lakers make out like absolute bandits in that trade IMO.

D12 + Beasley > Pau + Bynum... esp. considering the ages of the players.

And then they get a starting PG too in Barea? Pretty sick.

Not sure why Minny would make that deal. They could get better with the pieces they have IMO.

Yeah, that's why I said I don't think it's a legit rumour. However, there are cases where international countries have reported deals before the US press has.

SomeDPlease 02-25-2012 08:20 PM

The fact that both Rubio and Pau have played together before probably plays a factor.

Blaze 02-25-2012 08:21 PM

Dwight said he's not extending with LA any more though. Don't think this is very reliable.

Yeah, Dwight + trash > Pau + Bynum. You always give up whatever it takes to get the best player in the deal.

As for Pau going to Minni, I think it's a solid trade. Pau is a much better defender than Pek and Love and gives them that under the rim defence that they lack. But Adelman is an offence guy, and that's where Pau will excel. It would be like Divac under Adelman times a thousand. Pau is a great scorer and a good passer out of the post and would make the Timebervolves' offence pretty deadly. Their frontcourt would be like top 3 in the NBA.

I think that Minny's frontcourt is stellar as it is.... and it's only going to get better.

Pau isn't going to turn Minny into a title contender next year... as good as he is.

box92 02-25-2012 08:37 PM

minny needs atleast a pick out of this as well I think, but who would be their SF after this trade if it were to happen?
