The rumor thread

I just thought that it'd be nice to have a thread where the really flimsy rumors go, just for fun, you know. When they get more substantiated they get their own threads.

Such as this one, from a post on RealGM:

This rumor is hearsay so lock this up if you want. Sean May and his girlfriend were at a wedding I was at this past weekend. His girlfriend (Grace) is good friends with the girl that was getting married. They were saying that they were leaving for Vegas on Sunday......May was going to go through some drills or something with the summer league team. Well one of my friends was saying yesterday that Grace was bitching cause they never made it to Vegas.....instead they went to Utah. Supposedly he worked out for Sloan and had a physical. He's saying that if his tests are clean that he and Gerald are gone......for Carlos Boozer. Again, this is hearsay and probably false cause I haven't heard anything about this. Did Sean make it to Vegas? If this did come true I'll take it but what's Boozer's contract status?
Here's why it would make sense for Utah: Boozer's contract. It expires next year and considering his past and the volume of teams with capspace next summer, as well as the fact that Okur is also unrestricted, it's very possible someone throws out a Shard-like contract at him next year that the Jazz can't match. Furthermore, these playoffs proved that they can't win with Boozer and Okur's weakness defensively together, not to mention Booz played like a bitch against Gasol, it's hard to imagine him against someone not soft. But if you slide AK down to the 4 where he belongs (which might rejuvinate him offensively anyways), and then put Wallace at the 3, along with their solid bench, you have a very interesting lineup. Wallace would be injured a lot, but Utah's remaining lineup would be good enough to keep them afloat while he is. It's a risk, but it could pay off.

Charlotte gets to trade a player who's injured too much to be a centerpiece for their franchise or get them to the playoffs, for one of the league's best PFs who would work perfectly next to Okafor, and their first trip to the playoffs. Next year it'll be hard to keep him, but they'll have like 15 mil worth of expiring contract with Morrison's gross deal going, so they'll be able to find someone. And if they do make the playoffs, Charlotte will be seen as a slightly greener place to sign. And maybe they will lock him up. In any case, it'd better than settling for a 9th or 10th seed this year with Jrich/injured GWallace/Okafor/Felton.

Couple more sources reporting the rumor, though still very flimsy

It's also confirmed that May didn't get to Vegas until yesterday. Wallace was apparantley supposed to be around there too, but he apparantley hasn't shown up yet.

Here's one. Chris Mullins (president) says Warriors will re-sign Ellis and Biedrins

For the Warriors to continue to contend for the playoffs, it's a must that guard Monta Ellis and center Andris Biedrins, both 22-year-old restricted free agents, be re-signed. Ellis averaged 20.2 points per game last season, while Biedrins averaged 10.5 points and 9.8 rebounds.

"We'll get them back," said Mullin. [Ellis] and Biedrins will be back."

Finally Warriors make a half-decent decision in signing these two guys.

If Nelson actually chooses to play Biedrins the minutes he deserves next year, he should average around 14+12. If they lose him theyre fucked

There seems to be a lot talk between the Pistons and Warriors involving Billups going to Golden State. Detroit wants Biedrins, GS wants them to take Harrington for him.

Wiretap doesn't have it yet, but the word is Panathinaikos has offered Scola 3 years/26 EUROS. Huge raise if it's true. Horrible for the Rockets.

This post has some links (they're foreign pages though)

Apparently Josh Smith told the hawks he wasnt returning if Woodson stayed coach.

Claudius 07-17-2008 10:13 AM

If I'm Scola I take that offer and run. It would be a huge loss for Houston though because when he got going and fitting in that entire team starting clicking.

However, seeing how I hate Houston, I will be pleased.

Major 07-17-2008 10:16 AM

I really hope this isn't true. That would be the 2nd worst thing to ever happen to the Houston. (1st being Battier for Rudy Gay)

Ball Don't Lie 07-17-2008 12:19 PM

I think Scola chose to come to the NBA to play vs the best. Hes in a great situation making good money as is, I doubt he leaves now especially after showing he belongs in his rookie year. But then again, money talks I guess. It's pretty lame if he does leave to go to europe to play against C compettition whereas if he keeps playing the way he did in his rookie year, his next contract will be bigger than the one mentioned in this article.

Lots of talk of something like Brad Miller and John Salmons for Noah, Gooden, Nocioni happening. Chicago would seemingly be gunning for 2010, where they could try for Amare or Bosh. Rose, Deng, Amare/Bosh, with Gordon off the bench and whatever else you build around them... would be contenders.

I think the Kings realize that with all the teams with capspace in 2010, nobody's going to sign in Sacramento, so they might as well get assets and then create cap flexibility for '11 or something... pretty smart actually.

I have heard about this rumor in Europe, but I think it's very unlikely to happen. I mean Panathinaikos is not gonna pay 24-26 millions for a guy like Scola. There are more rumors about Scola going to Spain or Russia and this is more likely to happen.
