Pistons Rumor: Joe Dumars about to resign

Quote:
Joe Dumars plans to resign as president of the Detroit Pistons, possibly as soon as this week, according to sources.

The Pistons had expected to make the playoffs after signing Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings last offseason. Detroit instead is 28-49 and out of playoff contention.

Dumars took over in 2000, one year after retiring as a player, and immediately began making changes, culminating in an NBA title in 2004 and a return trip to the Finals the next season.

Dumars tried to save Maurice Cheeks' job earlier this season, but Tom Gores insisted on a chance.

Dumars pretty much destroyed the Pistons all on his own, so I'm happy he will soon be gone. Just please don't hire Isiah Thomas.

Isaiah Thomas was great at adding talent, but not chemistry and personality to a team, with the Knicks he had Crawford, Curry before he got even fatter, Randolph, Q rich, and Marbury, went for Francis to...very talented team with a terrible collective attitude and no cap space to fix it lol.

...Actually thats what Dumars does too..lmao

No wonder, as all GM - apart from very few - build their thinking on gambling style. Think about BC ? his gambling style worked great for one season, but then it took us down for more than 3 seasons.

Look at Colangelo and what he did in Pheonix compared to what he did here. And yes, i think it's complete bullshit to say he had success there because of his father. The fact is, being a GM has a lot to do with luck and timing. IMO BC was pretty good at making trades and drafting.....he had a hard time here getting bigger FA's to want to come here, which has always been an issue. We have yet to see what MU will do in that department. Joe Dumars luck seems to have run dry 5-6 years ago. I also think that success comes pretty early for a GM that they become a little complacent, think everything they touch will turn to gold, then they make mistakes...team turns to shit and money gets tossed to the wrong FA's as quick fixes (ie: Gordon, CV, Smith, Jennings)

They sure do. Personally I just wish the league would expand to 32 teams and have a team in Seattle and Vancouver, but I know that won't happen anytime soon

Why would you think that? Jerry Colangelo is one of the most respected men in basketball. He was a driving force in returning USA basketball to it's glory. You can bet your ass that he had some input into decisions that his son made in PHX.
