FIBA Rudy Fernandez Punched By Lithuanian Fan Following Game

Not sure if this is threadworthy but I thought it'd be funny posting it since half of the Lithuanian population is on this board.

Rudy Fernandez Punched By Fan Following Game
Mar 07, 2013 5:23 PM EST

Rudy Fernandez was punched in the face by a Lithuanian fan following Real Madrid's 105-104 win over Zalgiris Kaunas in Euroleague play on Thursday.

Fernandez was bloodied by the punch and went straight to the airport. Real Madrid had a security guard with the team but he reportedly did not react fast enough to prevent the assault.

The assailant has been arrested.

Fernandez had 11 points and four assists in the game.

Imagine this happening in the NBA!

To be fair he was born and raised in Latvia, or maybe I should say they (2 brothers). But both of them are die hard Lithuanian basketball fans they have shit load of Lit ball related tattoos... Anyway Recently they declined their Latvian citizenship and got a Lithuanian one.

Bargnani should feel lucky that he plays in Toronto and only has to deal with boos every now and then…

This sucks for Rudy tho, sports is taken too serious

I love it how Canadians imagine Lithuanians as being complete idiots and hooligans. The most entertaining fact is that people like them get citizenship while real athletes who WANT to represent our country are left behind and declined.

No, but seriously, stop making fun of Lithuanians - it's frustrating :| I've supported the raps before any Lithuanian came to this team and I rarely even post. Supporting a BAD team that is on the other side of the Atlantic shouldn't be all that motivating for the people who don't live in Canada.... And since there are two Lithuanians on this team, I don't see any reason for them to not be more excited for Jonas and Kleiza than you will ever be. Remember, Lithuania is a small country and we barely have 3 million people living here, so it's not strange that SOME people are more passionate about the only thing we do good than others.

Toronto is the only basketball club i support. bug off

The comments made on here by lithuanians don't help. Basically, most of you on here are not fans of the team but fanboys of Kleiza and Valanciunas and unless those guys play significant minutes or at least one of them, win or lose....a lot of bitching can be expected. You guys don't do yourselves any favors around here.

Yeah I mean I'm only a Raps fan because they drafted my fellow countryman Remon van de Hare back in 2003... After 10 years I'm still waiting lol, dunno if we even have his rights anymore, probably not....

Just kidding of course, I was a Raps fan when Reggie Slater was still roaming the paint.... Dark times...

It's not like we punch random players in the face for nothing. I think it's only second time when Zalgiris fans attacked a player, prior to that there was a ginger Zavackas, who called Kaunas a pile of shit and was showing middle finger to fans during a game. While Rudy is a well known princess (actor) and dirty player (like all spanish players), he totally deserved what he got.
No, we wouldn't punch Bargnani in the face if he played in Zalgiris and sucked, because we don't do that to our own players no matter how bad they play. Playing bad and being unsportsmanship jerk is not the same. If you throw a ball to someone's head on purpose, talk trash, spit into face in real life - you will get more than a slap, you might get killed. Why should basketball court have different rules?

I find the majority of the Lithuanian posters on this site very insightful. As a whole, they really understand the game.

I don't think that you will ever understand my point. In Lithuania, basketball is a lot more loved than it is in Canada and the US. NBA is the number one leauge in the world, so obviously some people get really supportive of players that come from Lithuania to the NBA. You will always have those people, no matter what. But do you really think that all of us are watching the Raptors only because JV plays here?

It's the same feeling with Wiggins to you Canadians. The dots are quite clear that it's the same relationship, but since you HAVE an NBA team, that means you will not support the team Wiggins will play on (unless Toronto gets him, HA). At the same time it doesn't mean that you won't support Wiggins as a Canadian prospect. Get it?
