T Wolves Rubio/Agent balk at 4yr/43mil extension offer

Max for Rubio?

Quote:
Rubio is on notice. The Wolves are trying to sign him to an extension, and so far his agent, Dan Fegan, is balking at the idea of a 4-year, $43 million deal. That's plenty for a player of Rubio's caliber. It's a lot more than Atlanta point guard Jeff Teague makes -- maybe a better player -- and is what Golden State All-Star guard Stephen Curry makes. But Fegan is seeking the 5-year max. That's not happening. The situation is pointing toward Rubio being a restricted free agent next summer. In other words, the 2014-2015 season is huge for Rubio. He should improve his shooting under Flip and we know he has unbelievable athletes to cut to the hoop and catch alley-oop passes.

Quote:
Wiggins will be the face of the franchise, in my opinion. Answered some of this above. But his value at the time is what only the Wolves are willing to pay him: 4-years, $43 million. His value next summer will be what the league will pay him and then the Wolves will decide if they want to match the offer. And yes, I think at the moment the Wolves are plenty fine with letting another team set the market next summer.
An interview with Timberwolves writer Darren Wolfson

If you remember, he didn't like being drafted by Minnesota and wanted to go to a big market team. He wants max in Minnesota but will likely take less somewhere else.

If that's the case, trade him now and put lavine as a starting PG. They could fetch something decent for him.

I mentioned this yesterday, but I would offer the Suns Rubio and Martin for Bledsoe.

I could easily see him having his best season next year without the mandate to get Love his points. He's going to get the opportunity to really lead that team and he could flourish. I'm not surprised that he's going to wait; he's turning 24 this year, and he'll likely get somewhere close to 4 years at 40 mil regardless of how he plays. That team's identity will shift towards the defensive end of the court and getting out in transition which are both strengths of Rubio.

Rubio would work well with Wiggins and Lavine IMO nice young run and gun team.

yeah to be honest I still think Love gives up more for a team than gives it. Great trade by Minny. Not so great by Cle. Wiggins could have been huge being mentored by Lebron. Thompson could have continued growing too.

Both teams will get what they need out of this imo. Good for both sides.

I wouldn't give him a cent more than 10 million per year as of now. I would however find a way to put a bonus structure in his contract to where if he shoots above 42% from the field and 33+% from 3, he makes 3-4 million extra for that season. I love watching Rubio, but it's ridiculous how bad of a shooter he is not only with his jumpshooting, but at the basket. The fact that he's shown no consistent improvement with this aspect of his game would worry me if I was the TWolves. You would hope that he becomes at least respectable in terms of his jump shooting like Kidd did during his prime years(and then later became a very good 3 point shooter as he was past his prime), but the comparisons to Kidd can't be made, as Kidd was a solid finisher around the rim and paint area.

I would only give Rubio a contract like that of Isaiah Thomas 4yrs 28mil. They guy is not a good defensive player, can't hit a jumper consistently and has only played 1 82 game season. The other two he had injuries in. He has the tools to be a very talented player, but I personally need to see more from him because in my opinion he is not worth the 4yrs 43mil offered to him and definitely not worth the max yrs+money he is looking for.

Yeah, likely.

EDIT - I was wrong about the other thing. Fegan doesn't represent baseball players. I must be thinking of someone else.

Pretty funny how quickly people have turned on him. Two seasons ago many had him as a top 7-8 PG in the league. lol

I never liked him, Rubio was hyped and called new PG prodigy since he was 14. But he didn't really improve much since. I don't know how could someone who watch him play could think that he is good. He makes some flashy passes and makes the highlights, but that's about it.
