Rose to LeBron: I can take you or leave you

From Yahoo

Quote:

Reach out to him, Chicago management had pleaded with Derrick Rose(notes). LeBron doesn’t think you want him here. That’s what they told the Bulls’ franchise star in July, a request that was met with dutiful respect from Rose. Sure, he told the Bulls. I’ll shoot him a text. Rose is polite this way, honoring obligations and orders from above.
Quote:

Rose didn’t want LeBron taking the ball out of his hands, nor respect out of the room. Eventually, Rose reached out, but only out of a sense of duty. Rose didn’t want James, nor did Rose particularly want Wade to make a Chicago homecoming. During early July, Rose shut himself in the gym and worked on his game. The soap opera bored him.

“If they wanted to come here, they would’ve come here,” Rose told Yahoo! Sports Saturday night.

Rose was betting on his own greatness, a MVP candidacy he believed would come sooner than later.
Quote:

Rose has always been his own man, though. Worldwide Wes had been an influence that pushed him to John Calipari, but Rose and his family never allowed him to be funneled into that LeBron-Wes recruiting machinery to CAA. This is a league of young players devoted to James, loyalists in ways that perplex people. Yet, Rose thinks for himself and has such a tremendous grasp of human nature. Privately, he wanted Atlanta free agent Joe Johnson(notes) as his shooting guard, a way to balance the floor with Noah and Carlos Boozer(notes) and Luol Deng(notes). James and Wade would’ve taken the ball and diminished Rose as the Bulls point guard. It never appealed to him.

Love his attitude. Determined and confident, great to see in a player so young.

he's smart. period.
he knew that Lebron or Wade on Chicago just wouldnt work well for the overall style of the team... they are too ball dependent.
when all is said and done and Noah is back healthy, they will come out of the east. just watch.

Lol.... Rose has balls but he's actually very stupid if he believes that.

People said that Wade and Lebron could never coexist.... and yet they've merged into the most potent tandem in the league since Pippen and Jordan.

Lebron would have made CHI's defense even BETTER than it already is and would have taken a ton of pressure off of Rose.

When Rose is at home watching the NBA Finals on TV he may rethink his words.

the difference is that Chicago actually had good players to begin with.
Rose, Noah, Deng, acquiring Boozer...
you put a Wade or Lebron on that team and the whole nucleus of the team (including Rose's value especially) goes out the window.
In Miami, you put Wade and Lebron on a team filled with scrubs and its easy for those two to go off, because theres no one else on that team required to do anything but run up and down the court and watch.

Chicago's team is perfect, everyone knows their role and everyone contributes. Rose was bang on about his desire to get JJ on that team because he would have fit in gloriously.

Hard for me to analyze this one.

First, what I like the most out of this is precisely the "take it or leave it" sort of attitude, where Rose says that if LeBron really wants to go to Chicago, he won't make the team jump through a bunch of hoops to get him. There is some sensibility in that position.

Still, a lot of it reads like a guy who would rather not let the ball out of his hands. I love a guy with confidence, but LeBron is the best player in the league; don't let your pride get in the way of acquiring an asset like that. You can say that Rose knew they wouldn't gel well, but I don't think anyone could know that in advance. I really thought that Wade and LeBron would do terribly together but you see lately how they've been able to find a balance. During the off-season, I really thought that Chicago was the best place for one of LeBron, DWade, or Joe Johnson, and I was surprised when none of them went there.

So on the one hand, I love the confidence of Rose (and I think he does have MVP in his future) but I also think it's hard to deny that LeBron could've been beneficial.

Considering the makeup of the team, he might be right. Joe Johnson would have been a nice fit. I really haven't like Deng's defense since he came back from injury. It's not hard to see Lebron being a huge upgrade on that side of the ball, but I can see where the timing isn't just right for a guy like Rose, and where much of the team is with their careers. They deserve a chance to raise the level of their games at this point.

Rose is a star he doesnt need a LeBron or Wade on his team that's what he's saying basically

Exactly.

Lebron has had minimal problems "molding his game" to fit what MIA's doing... and he's been a key for them defensively.

Ignoring the potential benefit of having the best player in the league on your team is silly IMO.

Rose and Durant are what young athletes should look up to as role models.

thought 01-17-2011 05:36 PM

Maybe Rose saw the media fiasco Bron not only created but milked, and didn't want his team to have to deal with that sort of thing in the lockerroom. Maybe he saw the dude that quit in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals and didn't want to go into battle with him.

Chances are it all adds up and Rose would have rather beaten him in the playoffs than played with him on the same team. Can't say I blame him.

Rose is a beast.

Superjudge 01-17-2011 09:10 PM

isnt Miami like 47 and 1 now?

I'm pretty sure James would be an improvement over Deng.

LightsOut 01-18-2011 03:36 AM

^ no come playoff time when the bulls meet the celtics in the east finals lebron would break down seeing delonte for 7 games

I'm not claiming that Rose is better than Bron, but I bet he thinks he's on the same level. He kind of has this quiet, yet unparalleled bravado to him, and I admire that. Bull-headed perhaps, or Stalin-esque will power!
