Lakers Rondo for Gasol?

Celtics Interested In Rondo For Gasol Trade - RealGM Wiretap

Quote:
“Well, if there were a way for us to get a 25-year-old, All-Star, ball-handling guard we’d love to do it," said Kupchak to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com. "But that’s not likely in February. So you look at other alternatives, and see if it’s better than what you have. That’s all.”

Rajon Rondo is the player that fits that description, possibly the only one in the NBA.

Sources say the Celtics have interest in acquiring Pau Gasol for Rondo.
Rondo to LA would be wicked!

taking fisher out of the starting lineup is addition by subtraction, and when you add rondo's defense and penetration they're obviously getting better there. this would reinforce the need for LA to get another shooter because the lack of shotmaking from deep is killing them, and Rondo might actually make that issue worse. JR Smith would be an incredible pickup for the Lakers, cause he'd get whipped into shape pretty quickly.

Agreed. LAL would win this hands down. If I'm them I insist on Bynum instead.

maybe rondo is an asshole. or maybe boston management think's he's a bit overrated or not sexy. maybe they think pierce, allen, bradley, dooling and daniels can handle the ball and all they need is a dominant post presence to get back into the playoffs.

and pau only has 2 years left after this one, so maybe this is part of the rebuilding?

dunno. seems like an odd move for the celts, but maybe there's more to rondo than we know.

if i'm the C's, Rondo is the one player i refuse to trade. Everyone on the roster is available except for him.
and why Gasol? if i'm talking to the Lakers the only name that is coming up is Bynum's. Gasol is on the downward part of his career, why would you want to add another old guy to an already old team?

It's funny because Laker fans are thinking "why would C's do this trade?" and C's fans are thinking "why would LA do this trade?". I think this is actually a pretty good trade for both teams assuming there's some other pieces involved in the trade. The C's have shown the ability to win without their all-star PG and acquiring Gasol gives them a suddenly deep frontcourt of Gasol/KG/Bass/JO/Wilcox. It leaves huge holes for LA and Boston at the PF and PG positions, respectively. I'd love to see Steve Blake going to Bos and Bass coming to LA to fill those holes. Lakers would probably have to give up more on top of that to make the trade work though.

McRoberts and Murphy are more than enough to hold down the PF position at an average level. I don't know if Boston has faith in their pgs or something, maybe something's up with Rondo.

Please make this happen!

Lakers must be kicking themselves for giving away Odom for absolutely nothing in return.

I think so too. And with Bynum having a career year I don't think that LA's frontcourt would suffer too badly. If they still had Odom this trade would be SO much better for them though.... because if Bynum gets injured or into foul trouble it makes things tough.

Doesn't make much sense for BOS since they'll be betting the farm on the next 2 seasons or so and relying HEAVILY on Pau and Pierce to carry them offensively. If they're determined to deal Rondo they should do it for a high draft pick.

Pau has a lot more game left in him. He's not really one to rely on his athleticism, and is a lot more fundamentals like Duncan. You can't really write him off yet, and maybe Boston would prefer a PG that could shoot the 3. I don't know if Bradley's been under some secret training or something but getting rid of your star PG who is a cog and not rebuilding is kind of weird.

maybe this could expand with Houston, who wanted Gasol in the first place.
