The only problem is Yao's health, but the Rockets did go on a 22 game win streak without him, so I mean, they can still win, but it's hard. I just can't wait to see T-Mac and Artest play together, should be fun to watch.
They are good friends, they played against each other in highschool and were the top players in the nation. Amazing move for the rockets, apart from the 07 series this is the only time tmac doesn't have an excuse to lose as long as they stay healthy.

I don't know if anyone knows how good scola is but it will be scary

Alston
TMAC
Artest
Scola
Yao

And battier as a 6th man with a landry bringing lots of energy. And if they decide to trade battier for and upgrade at the 1 it would be insane. They were already the 2nd best defensive team with no Yao so yes this will be scary.

You guys are acting like this automatically improves their defense by leaps and bounds.

He brings a very similar defensive presence to Battier. So either it tightens up their second unit defensively, or it leaves them running a point guard-less offence.

Its not as simple as saying Ron Artest is good at defence, therefore whatever team he's on instantly becomes significantly better defensively.

Ron Artest will have less defensive impact on Houston than he would have on maybe any other team in the league, because they've already got a defensive stopper on the wing.

True but I think you are going to see Battier play the 4 to help spread the floor around Ming and have Scola come off the bench as a 4/5

You're right actually, they would probably be most effective going McGrady/Artest/Battier at 2/3/4, and I think we'll see a fair bit of that.

But when it comes down to it, there are a lot of 4's in the West that a Yao/Battier front line might not be able to handle. They'll need Scola to guard Boozer, Pau, Duncan, Camby/Kaman, Aldridge and so on.

This seems to have been a case of getting a super talented guy for a good price and not necessarily worrying too much about where he's going to fit. Because Ron Artest in Houston is nowhere near the upgrade that Ron Artest would be in say...Toronto

Either way...add Houston to the list of teams that are going to be very interesting to watch next season.

And is it just me, or does that list now include well over 50% of the league?

It's not as great a fit as what the Celtics and Lakers got, but lets be honest, Houston had no assets and had lost in the 1st round every year since TMac/Yao got there... even having the oppurtunity to get a player like Artest is a total blessing for them. At least they have the chance to be total contenders now, which they didn't have before.

A day after the Rockets and Sacramento Kings agreed in principle to a deal sending Artest to Houston for Bobby Jackson, Donte Greene and a first-round draft pick, Yao expressed concerns about team chemistry to the Houston Chronicle and referenced Artest's involvement in the 2004 brawl with Pistons fans.

"Hopefully, he's not fighting anymore and going after a guy in the stands," Yao said, according to the Chronicle.

When asked about those comments, Artest said Yao had bought into "all the propaganda" about him, according to The Sacramento Bee.
Quote:
"I understand what Yao said, but I'm still ghetto," Artest said, according to the report. "That's not going to change. I'm never going to change my culture. Yao has played with a lot of black players, but I don't think he's ever played with a black player that really represents his culture as much as I represent my culture. Once Yao Ming gets to know me, he'll understand what I'm about.

"If you go back to the brawl, that's a culture issue right there," Artest added, according to the report. "Somebody was disrespecting me, so he's got to understand where I'm coming from. People that know me know that Ron Artest never changed."
and away we go! both of these guys really siad the wrong things here. why would yao disrespect his new teammate and go to the press about that before the deal is even finalized? "hey, welcome to the team, you brawling douche!"

and artest with this culture crap - what the fuck? it's a black thing to attack people that disrespect you? yeah, you really represent your culture well jackass. and to say you've never changed means you'd do it again in a heartbeat. yikes.

adelman and the rockets staff must be thrilled.

Faaaaaaantastic! That's just a money quote.

I sure black people are thrilled to have a cultural representative like Ron Artest.

Finally he clears all that up! We all thought he was going into the stands to fight the guy, when in fact he was just letting him know where he comes from.

"Excuse me, sir. I was born and raised in Queensbridge, N.Y. and back home, we don't express ourselves by throwing things at people. If you disagree with any of my actions in future, feel free to send me a letter or e-mail via the Indiana Pacers organization"

Yes, that must have been it. And people who know him know that will never change.

What a way to join a team. Genius, Ron. Simply genius.

that must be the most racist comment I have heard in a long time. And it comes for a black person....
