Rockets think Posey could be one missing piece

Apparently, so does everyone else

Several other teams, including the Rockets, would like to lure him away from Boston and will give him the long-term deal he wants.

The Rockets were hoping to be players in the Corey Maggette market, but seem to have been beaten out by the San Antonio Spurs, or perhaps the Orlando Magic. Posey is no Maggette, but he's an outstanding defender and a capable scorer who could be a nice complement to Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady. More than anything, Posey is all about the intangibles. He gets the key loose ball or makes the big steal saving a game for his team.

Houston is also in negotiations with Dikembe Mutombo, who is likely to return to the team for one more season, Spurs free agent guard Brent Barry, and forward Carl Landry.

Posey would be a great piece for anyone

I think the guy they should make a move for though is Stephen Jackson, he'd be a good 3rd scorer and among the more attainable ones considering they're not roaming in assets (you're not going to get say, Hedo Turkoglu)

Golden State knows his value is as high as it'll be right now, and they're obviously not going to be a playoff team next year, so they might as well get rid of him and build for the future around Ellis, Biedrins, Wright, Randolph, whatever they get for Jackson, and a great lottery pick next year... not a bad future at all.

Stephen Jackson

for

Bobby Jackson's expiring contract
Donte Green
Aaron Brooks
09 first

Thats a horrible deal because the pick will be in the 20's because of Houstons success, Jacksons deal isnt all that big, and Green is a big question mark and they just drafted a guy at the same position as him in Randolph. I dont think Houston has the assets to trade for Jackson

Or maybe even Monta Ellis. He had the same stats as Jackson but he's 8 years younger. And is a lot cheaper as well.

Ellis is an RFA this summer and will definitely cash in. I don't think he'll be cheaper and Jackson because I'm sure the Warriors are going to open the vault to resign him.

Well if I were their GM I'd do whatever it takes to keep him, for sure. He's only 22, not even close to his prime and he's averaging 20+ ppg

Edit: check out the other thread here about where Ellis is going

Not sure if you guys heard yet, but Posey already got an offer from the Celtics and did not like it. He is seeking full mid level which is about 6 mill and the C's did not offer him the full MLE. From Boston Herald:

Quote:
By Mark Murphy / Celtics Notebook

Free agent James Posey, via agent Mark Bartelstein, continued to talk to other NBA suitors in the wake of what he considers an unacceptable offer from his former team - one that falls short of the $5.8 million mid-level exception as well as his desire for a 4- to 5-year deal.
Personally, I think he deserves the full MLE.

Well I'm not sure if he deserves $6 million. That's double the amount from his last contract of $3.2 million. I'd say he deserves maybe $4.5 million, but no more than that. He is a bencher after all.

but he is a good bench player that helps the defense and can score and what posey is asking for is resonable considering how muc he helped the celts

Celtics offered him the MLE, but not for 5 years like he wants. No one should give him 5 years for 30 mil total when hes 32. Like any smart team the Celtics offered him 3 years and I guess hes just not sold on it yet. If any team signs him for 5 years itll be a mistake down the road.

I hope they don't sign him for 5 years. For all I know he's only good for another 2 years. I'm not saying he'll retire at that time i'm just saying he's going to be nothing by then.
