The Rockets are close to signing Marc Gasol to a max contract offer sheet worth $55 million over four seasons.

Houston is working on a sign-and-trade with Memphis to secure him.

The Grizzlies have been expected to retain Gasol, with the idea that they would match nearly an offer he would receive.

It's pretty hefty to match, but a good price. Wouldn't it have been awesome to re-unite both Gasols?

It's what chandler got...I think M.Gasol is more of a complete player than Tyson. Memphis needs Marc, it's an easy match IMO.

I still think the Lakers should make a play for him....send Bynum and reunite the Gasols in Lakerland.

Pretty sure that LA is going to take D12 and Hedo but I agree with you... the Gasol bros and Kobe would still be pretty nasty.

By all accounts MEM has said that they intend to keep Gasol and match any offer out there..... would be a great signing for HOU though. Solid replacement for Yao.

No brainer...

The Grizzlies are expected to match the four-year, $55 million offer sheet that Marc Gasol has agreed to with the Rockets.

Gasol is a restricted free agent and Memphis would have three days to match.

Center Marc Gasol agreed to terms tonight on a four-year, nearly $58 million contract with the team, effectively taking the restricted free agent off the market.

Gasol is expected in town Tuesday to take a physical. He should join his teammates for practice no later than Wednesday.

The 7-footer will be paid $12.9 million in the first year of the deal. He'll receive 7.5-percent raises. Memphis paid Gasol the most he could receive as a free agent.

Other teams could only pay Gasol a maximum of $55 million over four years with 4.5-percent increases.

wow. that's a horrible deal. its not like gasol is young or filled with tremendous upside either. in two seasons memphis is going to be looking to blow their team up big time. they had a nice run in the playoff, but they're not going to repeat it. gay, z-bo and gasol are a nice trio, but for 45-50 million a season? gross.

I dunno... he's not a high-flyer like D12 or anything... so 26 isn't that old really. Could easily see him maintaining his production well through to the end of the contract.

MEM is taking a risk and thinking big... but I don't mind the play at all. They're not going to get any bonafide stars to come, so they've locked up the "2nd tier" ones that they have.

Still one of the most formidable frontcourts in basketball.

Eager to see how they get on this season.

i agree. Maybe jackson filth is right that it's not the best "3 guys on big money" trio out there. But could they have done any better?

instead they've tied down 3 guys who do well for them, are settled and are part of a good system.

they will stay a strong side for a while now.

yeah, he's not old at all. i just get the impression that everyone believe he came over to north america when he was 19-20 years old. not 23..

you're right, though. it's not a bad deal for locking up a center on a small market team. i just see them being stuck with a very mediocre team with those contracts.

Marc is a 26 year old Center who improves every year and is very skilled. MEM was missing their top, or 2nd scorer, for the 2nd half of the year last year. The only way I see them being average is if Gay doesnt fit in to the lineup now, which is possible, but I think Conley has improved enough that he'll get the ball to where it needs to go and there wont be an issue with their 'only being one ball'. MEM's team is pretty stacked if Gay does mesh well in his return to the lineup, and I think they can get to the conference finals this year if healthy. I dont see anything average about them, they have a very talented core and top 8 rotation players overall.
