Report: Iverson Granted Leave

WTF already?

Quote:
Allen Iverson has been granted permission by Grizzlies owner Michael Heasley to leave the team.

The Memphis Commercial Appeal reported the story on Saturday.

Iverson had a meeting with Heisley Friday night after the team lost 114-98 to the Lakers.

He has come off the bench in each of the three games he has played this season and has made his displeasure public.

I hope this is only a 'vacation leave' sort of thing, if the Grizzlies will release him, that would be a bad idea. Iverson has the 'will to win' attitude and the Grizzlies should realize that. He is a starter in the NBA, there's still a lot of teams out there, like the Raptors, needs a guy like him.

I wouldn't surprised Gasol wanted to be traded, the management doesn't know how to handle their players. Good luck Memphis!

i'm curious to know what arrangement was made when iverson signed there. i wouldn't be surprised if he was offered a starting spot. there's no other explanation for him to sign with a team like the grizz.

save it insider

He should've just swallowed his ego. If he's perceived as being unhappy with a bench role, what team will take a chance on him after this?

They're a better team without him.
But geeze. What a mess.

This is awesome. This and Starbury are changing the face of basketball.

Instead of GM's saying "I guess this premadona attitude is what I have to put up with to have a premium player on on my team" , they are gonna say "Ef this sh!t. I aint falling for this. next"

It doesn't appear as though Allen Iverson will be returning to the Grizzlies very soon.

Memphis coach Lionel Hollins said Saturday night that Iverson's absence from the club was "indefinite."

Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley claims that the developments have nothing to do with Iverson's displeasure about his role.

"I'm not going to get into the personal reason but it has nothing to do with the other stuff," Heisley told the Memphis Commercial Appeal. "I'm the guy who said he could go. It's a real family issue that I don't think should be reported."

Heisley did admit that some big issues will need to be worked out when Iverson does return to the team.

"There's no question that when he comes back we have to work some things out," Heisley said. "He's got a lot of work to do, but we've all got to get on the same page. He understands what the conditions are. And we need to be less hyper about this along with Allen."

Wow, 3 games so they basically paid him 1 Mill per game. Guess they'll hang on to his rights till Dec 15th and then they can find a desperate team they can trade with

i realize that this is not likely, but is anyone willing to entertain the possibility that this doesn't have anything to do with him being disgruntled and is actually a family issue, as heisley suggested?
