Pistons Report: Bryan Colangelo a front runner to replace Joe Dumars

Sorry, can someone put this in the NBA section.

Quote:
It's an age-old question - if Bryan Colangelo replaces Joe Dumars for the role of Pistons general manager, does anyone hear it?

A report from Jeff Zillgitt and Sam Amick of USA Today mentioned three leading candidates for the Detroit's vacant position. In addition to former Raptors GM Bryan Colangelo, the report also names Orlando assistant GM Scott Perry and Golden State assistant GM Travis Schlenk.

ESPN reported earlier this week ex-Piston Grant Hill is also a possible candidate.

"I put together the Raptors current starting lineup. Whether you want to admit it or not, all those guys are on the roster because I brought them in."

Here's the thing: Detroit is already fucked up. Colangelo can't really make it much worse. It's possible that Detroit might not even have a 2014 pick, if the lotto balls don't go their way and the pick falls outside the top 8 protection zone (it'll go to the BobKittens).

It would actually be funny if Colangelo did the exact opposite of what he did in Toronto, given the hole that the Pistons are in.

Like, what if he showed up there, and was all "sheeeeiiiit, ain't no way we're winning for a few years, maybe I should make moves for picks or young prospects and build around Drummond."

Or, maybe he'll trade away future picks in order to ditch Jennings and Smith, and take back aging, injured veterans in return. You know, there's that too.

"It's probably the latter, Bill!"

I can't wait until I'm relevant again, so I can return to posting with my old friends on Raptorsforum.

We were talking about this before. I don't know why it is funny or odd. He will get a ton of money to do, if he's smart this time, a proper rebuild to a once proud franchise. And he is close enough to try and haunt us for a good 5 years.

By the way, Bargnani's going there when he's a UFA. And Gheradinhi and Carlessimo and Belinelli and D'Antoni and Triano. I know, just a co-incidence.

Good for BC. He deserves another GM job.

He did a lot of bad, but a lot of good things here too.

Remember our starting lineup is all because of BC.

If that was the case, our starting lineup would consist of rudy gay and bargnani.

Our Starters were all brought here by BC. Some credit is due in that regard....

If BC gets the job I'm hoping this will happen

BC congratulations on getting the GM job with the Pistons, would you like to make a trade?

Thanks MU. Sure I would love to make a deal. I hear you are interested in Greg Monroe, so would you like to do a sign and trade in the off-season?

You read my mind, how does Landry Fields, Chuck Hayes and a 2nd rounder sound.

If you could throw in either Buycks or Stone then we have a deal as I believe Stone could be the next Gary Payton and Buycks could become the next Isiah Thomas.

Sure BC this deal will be great for both of us.

I accept.

Yeah, I don't understand the BC hate. He is a solid GM. I will be happy to see him back in the business.

Jennings for Bargnani would be a good deal so long as Colangelo doesn't re-sign him. Andrea expires next year. So you're essentially doing the deal to ditch Jennings extra years on the payroll.

I get the joke; it's just that's also funny because it would actually make sense to do the trade.

Bringing players here is one thing, making it work is another. I don't remember who said it but it was a good point. Colangelo brought some pieces in but couldn't make it work, Masai on the other hand did.

uhm no, he brought in a train-wreck. Masai's done a lot to make it work.
(get rid of Bargnani and Gay, set Lowry straight, bring in the right complimentary pieces).

What BC gets credit for is that piece of shit we had before December 2013.

The funny thing is that as problematic as Gay became, he did provide DeMar with a fair bit of confidence, as well as getting his head turned around as to how not to play. I think it helped Lowry too. The two of them were pretty much getting shut out by this guy, and then being left to play on an island when they did see the ball, if they didn't want to see Rudy fumbling around some more. When he left it was as though they became determined not to do that to each other, or to the rest of the team. So Colangelo's mistakes, when combined with his successes, did have a net positive effect. I just wouldn't want to have counted on him to take the path necessary to make that true.

This analogy will seem a bit goofy, because in real life Colangelo dresses well.

Colangelo is the dude who goes out and buys a bunch of different suits, a dozen shirts and a few different pairs of shoes. He purchases some dope items, aside from a couple of ugly ass ties and an overpriced shirt that doesn't match any of the suits. He insists on wearing the shirt and those ties and ruining the rest of the wordrobe, that would otherwise make him look good. If he could just let those ties and shirt go, and roll with the rest of what he bought, he would be getting compliments left and right. But he couldn't. He insisted on keeping the ties and shirt, because he didn't realize how ugly they were, despite the rest of the items being fresh.

Masai, on the other hand, comes in and evaluates the wordrobe, recognizes the ties are awful, and that overpriced shirt draws all the attention away from the rest of the items that complement each other. So Masai ditches the ties and the overpriced shirt, then finds some new ties that match the suits.
