Re-Do the 2008 NBA Draft

How would the 2008 NBA draft go now? - SportsNation - ESPN

Rank em:

Rose
Love
Westbrook
Hibbert
Gordon
Lopez
Gallo
Ibaka
Jordan
Batum
Augustin
Beasley
Mayo
Thompson

Lopez and Gallo I think are interchangeable. Hard to pick right now obviously due to Brooks injury but both improved a lot over the last year.

I think somebody started a thread on this a couple of weeks ago. In hindsight, it was a solid draft.

pzabby 01-27-2012 08:40 PM

What about the 2003 draft? People say that was the strongest draft of the decade plus 2011 but compare it to the 2008 draft. Sure, the 2003 draft had 4 incredible players in it but the dropoff was massive after it. in the 2008 however you got incredible players from 1 through 10 and great players after that, so what do you think? which was the better draft? 2003 or 2008? and where do you think the 2012 draft will end up?

Oh how I wish we hadn't traded away Hibbert. He's starting to look like a top 5 center in the East. :sigh:

i think the 03 had more star power, the 08 was much deeper and still had great players

Ammo 01-28-2012 02:18 PM

Depressing that what is missing from this 2012 draft is the Rose and the Westbrook......even the Wall and the Irving.

wall=rose, just wait and see. and there is definitely a couple of irvings in this draft. irving isn't a star, an all star a couple times maybe, but not a superstar. anthony davis, drummond, barnes, perry, and maybe miller are all guys i see being better than irving.

I think he means impact point guards...

Totally! We have an impact PF, whether people like him or not, a hard to get impact 5 likely next season, SF and SG are still a bit uncertain. So I believe if we could have secured a hard to get stud PG to grow with the team, we could move forward easier. Knowing there will be injuries and guys won't panout like we expect, you obviously want to address a soft spot in free agency now, not necessarily 2 or 3 spots.

i.e.

Stud PG draft (hard to get, a conundrum for other teams, improves teamates)
Demar (focus on lockdown defending and being an opportunist)
free agent SF (starter who can defend and create his own shot)
impact PF (unique skill set, good luck guarding without double team)
impact C (hard to get, true centre, fills a role, rolls hard, an anchor)

Depressing that from the 2008 draft we didn't have a pick.

He was pretty good last year.

No Bogut? He's MOST DEFINITELY top 5 if healthy. Bynum/Gasol/Bogut are interchangeable in ranks 2-4 and then I'd say Hibbert/Noah are next. I don't think Al Jefferson should be mentioned with these guys.

Nah. Bogut has been disappointing this season. Offensively in the games he has played this season his output has digressed. His free throw shooting is terrible so that doesn't really help out his game offensively either. He's still a good shot blocker though. As for Noah he's been really inconsistent so far this season. His numbers are down but you can't put him in the same boat as the players who I mentioned. He's just not offensively talented enough.

Al Jeff is terrible defensively though. He's not a top 5 center simply because of that. Noah/Bogut haven't played up to expectations this season, but they impact the game by anchoring the defence and grabbing boards. Al Jeff is a good fantasy player, but he has little impact in actual games. Guys like Bogut/Noah/Gasol/Bynum are game changers.
