Quincy Acy: It was the best time of my life

Unplugged: Former Toronto Raptor Quincy Acy ‘back at square one’ after trade to Sacramento Kings | National Post

Quote:

NP: How did you find out about the trade?

QA: I had heard some talk on the bus ride over [from the teamís hotel to the Staples Center, where the Raptors were playing the Lakers on Sunday night]. I first heard Rudy [was involved]. When I got to the bus, I heard Rudy and AG, Aaron [Gray]. And then when I got to the locker room, I heard it was Rudy, Aaron and me. I was like, huh? I texted my agent to ask him what was going on. He said he hadnít heard it. I told him to make some calls. He made some calls and finally got in touch with Masai [Ujiri], and it was true. I was just kind of stunned, really.
Quote:

NP: Has it sunk in yet?

QA: Kind of, sort of. But itís still kind of just crazy. You donít prepare for this. Also, I was supposed to start against the Lakers. I donít know if coach told you. But he told me I was supposed to start that game [in place of the injured Tyler Hansbrough].

NP: Did Rudy Gay, who was traded in the middle of last season, give you any advice?

QA: He just said itís a business. Thatís one thing youíve got to always be prepared for. You can tell somebody that. But you canít really be prepared unless you experience that. Everything I own is in Toronto. Itís just like, ĎDang.í Itís crazy.
Quote:

NP: I know itís only been two days, but have you had a chance to reflect on your time in Toronto?

QA: It was the best time of my life. As far as the NBA, thatís all I know. I come in early in the morning. I eat. I work out. Ö That is my home, everyday playing there. Itís Toronto. I wouldnít change it. The fans were great. The people were great. The city was great. I had great teammates. It was a great start to my career. Everything happens for a reason. But Iím just glad I was able to start my career in Toronto. Ö Iíve got great tweets and [messages] on my Instagram post, and I didnít even play. That says a lot.

That's so sad. :sigh:

Masai, Why couldn't you wait until tomorrow so we can send Daye instead of Acy?

That sucks that he didn't get his start.... hope he gets a chance to show what he can do in SAC.

I actually really like his energy and attitude, it's a shame we shipped him. I wish him all the best.

Whenever Gray or Daye played instead of him, or when RG or LF would be idiotically inserted at PF, I was frustrated that Acy didn't play. Dude always played well when he played. Pretty productive in limited minutes.

could we of traded someone else than this guy?

SAC was smart in getting Acy ... this guy works his butt off and has been improving. He was a decent shot and gives you solid minutes. I'm sorry he was traded ...

Hopefully Masai explained that it was to get Rudy out of town, so eventually Acy can resign and keep growing in TO :mu:

We can't. ....that's reserved for ed davis

I feel for him. He never got his chance, but the big question is does he have the talent to be an NBA rotation player consistently?

It looks like we're building up more and more "Toronto ambassadors" around the league - guys who loved playing here, the vibe of the team and the city. That will pay dividends in the future - arguably it is already, with guys like Vasquez super excited to join our team.

:( aww what a sad story. I love Acy, truly hope he comes back one day.

I thought it was meant for Bayless.

Stonezz 12-15-2013 02:51 PM

Feel bad for the guy, hope he grows in Sac. Wish we could've sent Sac Daye instead.

Then, after all those options are extinguished - you'll be next in line. Got that? Also - if you make even one mistake I'll take you off. Ok?

Acy: Ugghhh, fine.

Yeah - that sounds completely accurate considering he said it was the time of his life.

Uggghhh.

I was poking fun at DC's decision-making and Acy's allotted minutes, etc while on this team.

Yes - time of his life that he was on his first team, etc. But - could've been better.
