Question for the NBA heads

Kevin Love vs Dwight Howard. Who's better and why? Keep in mind Love is three years younger.

Blaze 12-28-2011 02:18 AM

Dwight and its not even a contest. Dwight makes any team he goes on a contender, makes entire offence adjust to him and would be one of the five currently untradeable players in the league if he wasn't a little bitch. (If your wondering who those five are, Lebron, Durant, Rose, Blake and Him, some might include CP3 in here but I wouldn't.)

Kevin Love trying to do what Dwight Howard does looks like this...

Dwight hands down...but Love puts up big numbers awesome for my fantasy team :D

Despite the parity between the two players, this actually isn't a stupid question. It juss seems stupid to most of us, simply b/c we're basketball nerds. :thumb:

Obviously, Dwight's a Top 10 player (many say Top 5, and I won't blatantly disagree b/c he's indeed that on most nights) while Kevin is a Top 50 player. So while they are both elite at a number of the same things (scoring, rebounding, & non-stat reward things like ace pick-setting), Dwight is set apart by his outright dominance in all areas defensively, dominance offensively in the paint *AND* his on-court & locker room leadership; things that everyone has praised him about before, yet that idiot Otis Smith still doesn't respect all what Dwight brings to the table. :bonk:

Kevin has more offensive versatility, but Dwight is equally dominant offensively in his own way, and is a freak defensively not seen since Hakeem Olajuwon & David Robinson were in their prime.

fairer question would be Love vs. Griffin

love is the more intelligent player. he just isn't as gifted athletically. you give dwight his basketball IQ and the league would be at his mercy.

Good point Jackson. I bet there are more than one players on the Magic that would take Love right now.

Obviously, Dwight. And why...

Dwight could get 20 rpg if he stopped help defending and protecting the rim, and just focused on getting good position for rebounds.
Love probably gets a chance at 5 extra close rebounds each game because people go at him. And he's always in position because he doesn't block shots and doesn't help defend that much.

Love's shooting range is nice. But if I have to choose between 20 points from a slowish PF who can shoot, and 20 points from super athletic center who can both play quick game and who now has go to post moves... and who needs to be double teamed or at least draws a help defender very often.... I take the center. PF is easier to replace, and shooting is easier to replace.

The only things that Love has over Dwight are passing (esp outlets) clutch offense (not that Love is great but Dwight gets scared to be fouled). But you can live with that.

And obviously defense is incomparable. That would be like comparing DeMar's and Pippen's defense.

Better yet give Love Dwight's athletic ability and it would be scary. Hell the guy averages 15rpg now with his limited atheltic atributes.

howard is still a smart dude with the basketball, but he uses his strength (which is his strength) most of the time to play. last year howard was considered to be the best player to provide some sort of positive contribution each time he was given the ball, so i would say it has to be howard for me. also ValanciunasFanboy made the point that if howard's job was limited to securing the boards, he would be a 20 and 20 guy.
