Q-Rich is on the move again.

Poor Q-Rich, he went from NY, to Memphis, to LA, and now to Minny in a month or so.

Clippers to acquire three Wolves

The Los Angeles Clippers agreed to trade Quentin Richardson to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Sebastian Telfair, Mark Madsen and Craig Smith on Monday.

Madsen spoke to his agent on Monday to confirm the deal.

The trade is expected to be announced later Monday after the teams complete a trade call with the league.

The trade will give the Clippers a solid backup point guard behind Baron Davis and give them some depth at the power forward position.

The deal was also fiscally responsible for the Clippers. Madsen and Smith are in the final year of their contracts while Telfair has a player option for 2010-11 at a modest $2.7 million.

Telfair averaged 9.8 points and 4.6 assists last season in the first year of a three-year extension.

"I'm going going back back to Cali, Cali," Telfair posted on his Twitter account, referencing a popular hip-hop song. "Just got traded to clippers. I'm a little upset becuase [sic] I love Minnesota but I think I will be happy in LA also."

Madsen will be returning to a city he knows well. He spent the first three years of his career playing for the Los Angeles Lakers before signing with the Timberwolves in 2003, spending six seasons in Minnesota. His playing time waned as his career progressed, but he remained a valued leader in the locker room.

Smith was a capable scorer off the bench for the Wolves, but the power forward had trouble getting consistent playing time behind Al Jefferson and Kevin Love. Smith grew up in Los Angeles, starring at Fairfax High School before leaving to play at Boston College.

For the Wolves, this essentially saves them some money next season and clears up a potential logjam at the point guard position. New Wolves GM David Kahn is currently in Spain trying to negotiate a buyout for Ricky Rubio. If Kahn can get an agreement, he will have both Rubio and their other lottery pick, Jonny Flynn, as the team's point guards.

Richardson averaged 10.2 points and 4.4 rebounds last season for the New York Knicks. This is the third time the shooting guard has been traded this summer. He went from the Knicks to Memphis in a deal for Darko Milicic in June before being shipped from the Grizzlies to the Clippers for Zach Randolph last week.

Richardson has one year remaining on his contract at $9.3 million and gives Minnesota a veteran presence at shooting guard that was not there after they traded Randy Foye and Mike Miller to Washington in June.

Rookie Wayne Ellington was the only true shooting guard on the roster before the Wolves acquired Richardson.

He was excited to return to LA, too. That sucks for him, but hopefully he can be part of a positive future in Minnesota.

He was good in LA and he was really good in his earlier times with the Knicks. Then he pretty much got caught in the "wave".

MIN clears some cap space, but this leads to the question: is Rubio going to play for MIN next year now that Telfair is gone? If not why else would they make this move now that they have no backup PG? The MIN GM is in Spain right now for a reason. Should be interesting what happens.

Good deal for MIN anyway because they get 9 mil of cap space next offseason.

Craig Smith and Telfair will be good backups for the Clips. They just need a new coach now.
