Default Portland...hmmmm...

With that perspective, he ponders his place with the franchise's upswing. He has experienced enough success -- last season hitting game-winning shots at Memphis and Atlanta and finishing ninth in the sixth man of the year voting -- that he thinks he could one day be an All-Star. But he wonders whether that potential will be stifled on a team built around Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden.

And all of that feeds his apprehension of how the team perceives him as he enters what could be a contract year.

"We have a really good team," Outlaw says. "But I don't know if they are going to be able to keep us together
See....

As I have said, if Portland can keep this whole team intact for more than 3 years I will be shocked. Roy, Oden and Aldridge are gonna get the bucks from them and people like Outlaw, Webster, Bayless and mabey Rudy will be getting bigger money elsewhere.

edit: add to that the possibility of Miles contract going back on the books....

The parts around their big 3 are replaceable, and they still have 2 starting jobs to offer around the big 3. Maybe some of the young guys wont like coming off the bench for a winner, maybe they will. I think keeping a starting 5 of Bayless/Roy/Webster/Aldridge/Oden and then paying less for solid veteran FA's isnt a bad thing at all, and theyre still going to be able to offer guys like Rudy and Outlaw as much as they want in FA, its just up to them if they want to go elsewhere to start. Either way theyre going to have a great team for a long time, with or without guys like Outlaw and Rudy.

Remains to be seen, look what happened with Chi-town of a couple years ago. Lots and lots of young talent and lots of cap space and a high pick in the draft. People get wanting money, wanting to play and it is all gone.

Not even close to being the same.

Chi-town made numerous bad management desicions - drafting and signing players.

Imagine if they had kept Chandler, drafted Aldridge and not wasted a pick on a boob like Noah.

And not gotten into a dollar dispute with Deng and Gordon and not overpaid for Ben Wallace. If, If, If.

I can see the same thing happening in Portland.

IMO the worst danger for Blazers are to lose their team chemistry, what is easy with so many competence. Something like Real Madrid with Robinho.

Paxson blew it.

Portland's GM Pritchard has proven in the last two years to be one of the brightest and most creative GM's in the league. It's apples and oranges really.

Acie's right.

Paxson is probably one of the worst GM's in the league. Drafting Noah was questionable as was trading Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas. He's had numerous oppourtunities to put his team over the top, but fails to pull the trigger (not only in player movements, but personnel as well)

regarldless of gm'ing, this what i was talking about in my shitty little l.tax thread. young teams won't be able to afford to keep their teams together regardless if their gm is paxton or pritchard. the contract system is broken, and with the european market opening up, it's just going to make things worse.
