Pierce: "I'm the best player in the world"

Hmmmm .... why do I not believe him?

The Boston Celtics small forward/guard recently was asked by a Spanish publication whether he thought Kobe Bryant was the best player in the world.

Pierce said no. The NBA Finals MVP called himself the "best player."

He added, "There's a line that separates having confidence and being conceited. I don't cross that line, but I have a lot of confidence in myself."

On Thursday, Pierce stood by his comments, saying he is entitled to his opinion.

"That's what I said. I am a confident player and a lot of people might look at it like 'Oh, another cocky attitude,' but I don't look at it that way," said Pierce, who is in town for his annual youth basketball camp at Hangar Athletic Xchange.

"I have an opinion, I have a right to have one and that's the way I feel. I felt I've played against the best over the years and felt right now that I'm the best player in the world."

Pierce said his comments were not a knock on Bryant, who was named the league MVP. Nor was he saying that Bryant was conceited and he was confident.

"You could have asked me about any other player and I would have given you the same answer," Pierce said.

He added, laughing, "I would have said that (if he thought Bryant was conceited)."

Pierce also maintained that the best team won the NBA title last season. The Celtics defeated the Lakers, winning the best-of-7 series, 4-2.

"I think the Lakers are a great team, but I think they ran into a better team," he said. "They (Lakers) beat the best in all the Western Conference, they had the guy who was named MVP and the best record after the arrival of (Pau) Gasol. But they just ran up against the better team.

"I think they will be a great team next year. Maybe we'll see them back in the Finals."

He's not even the best player on his own team.

Bullshitter. "You could have asked me about any other player and I would have given you the same answer," Pierce said.
Reporter:''Michael Jordan in his prime?''
Pierce:''I'm better''
Joe Johnson almost kicked his ass so I don't know what he's saying.

he was the best player on his team in the play-offs, when it all counts.

play-off mvp is a better accomplishment than the seasons mvp. he owns that right to say that he's better than kobe.

OK common this is just going to far, I prefer Kobe bryant any time to Pierce, but saying that Pierce wasnt better is just insane. They all were better than any laker.

Well he did come across as very cocky. But Pierce has been underrated on a very bad team for years, so it was probably wearing on him. Im also sorry to say it but, Pierce is the best player on his team, he is the only player out of the "Big 3" that can beat you off the dribble and draw fouls that way consistently aswell as creating his own shot at will. Pierce was the man in the playoffs not KG.

Well they won the championship, so he can say whatever the fuck he wants and get away with it.

Hopefully next year someone will shut his big mouth

i think he is dreaming. Best Player in the NBA no way buddy. the celtics as a team won the championships not pierce. So what he had a good series against the Lakers. 6 games doesnt make you best in the NBA. Especially since he was not even concidered for Season MVP he should shut up before players like kobe, lebron, and garnett all dance circles around him. Best player in the NBA, HA

lebron isn't better than pierce imo. lebron is still young, but he'll have to learn how to play with the team instead being the team in order to ever win anything. i have seriously doubts that he'll ever get there. too many bigwigs pumping his head with how great he is. the kid already thinks he's MJ, and nobody liked MJ.

that's not me starting shit. pippen, rodman, grant and others have openly stated their relationship with MJ and how he was bigger than the team/ teammates. the washington/kwame incidents that went public showed his true colours.
