uh, because it won't work.

If we amnesty Bargnani, we still won't have any cap space (or very little). We'd be around $62 mill but with some roster spots left to fill. Although revenue is going up a lot since the last full season (maybe as high as 20%), in the new CBA they changed the BRI formula for determining the cap. In the past it would have shot up close to $70 mill, but now will likely be around $63 or $64 mill. Using the amnesty on Bargnani won't create enough room to outbid anyone.

There are a bunch of teams that will have cap space this summer. Chicago would have to declare their intention to use the amnesty on Boozer during the week of July 1 to 8 before the free agent signings begin. If Boozer is amnestied, a team with cap space can go after him instead of regular free agents. I said $3 or $4 million before, but, if their talks with other free agents go poorly, I could conceive of Houston offering $5 per year, just to make sure their bid wins.

Yes, I forgot about that component of the amnesty rule - similar to the waiver. Someone can have him and I'm sure they will but I highly doubt the Raptors make a move for him. Houston, don't know if he would fit honestly....maybe Dallas but they are in rebuild (maybe for the year?)....

All assuming Boozer is even amnestied...

I agree that he would not be an ideal fit in Houston. As I said, I could just see it happening if the agents of available bigs were unreceptive to their offers, like if they can't get Millsap or Josh Smith. There are several other teams with cap space that might want him.
