No. He will acquire Filipino citizenship through naturalization. The Philippine National Basketball Team has been handing-out naturalization to foreign players who mostly plays Center.

I thought you have to live in a place to become a naturalized citizen, or at least have someone in your family from that country.
since Americans are allowed to be dual citizens. whats to stop players from playing for another country?

Eat rice with all your meals, karaoke is a must, and adress everyone as "Tito" and "Tita." He'll be a Filipino citizen in a week.

The commercialisation of national sports, what could be better. I hate it so much, I don't even know where to begin. And some local dudes are training from the childhood just to get pushed out by purchased people. Some of those nationalized players usually haven't even seen their new country. Ridiculous.

Meh Philipine Basketball league is probably one of the most corrupt sports leagues in the world. I'm not shocked they are doing this. Besides this has been happening in soccer for a long long time

Who was that one guy way back that averaged like 30pts 20 rebounds a game in the Philippine league? That dude was a monster, I think he played for Portland before that though
