Celtics Perkins rejects Celtics' preliminary offer

Quote:
Kendrick Perkins is still focused on remaining a Boston Celtic after he becomes a free agent this summer.

Just as important, he wants to get a contract that he deems fair market value.

And the preliminary offer made by the Celtics, according to Perkins, won't cut it.

Perkins told CSNNE.com prior to Boston's 94-89 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats that the offer made to him was for four years around $22 million.

An earlier report by the Boston Herald cited two unnamed sources that indicated Perkins turned down a contract extension that was for four years and worth slightly less than $30 million.

"That wasn't it. They offered me four years, but it was closer to like $22 million," Perkins said. "You talking four years, $30 million! Shoot, that's different. That's a big difference."

When the offer was made, the C's had no idea as to when Perkins would return to the floor after having knee surgery, or how he would perform.

Needless to say, the 6-foot-11 center has exceeded everyone's expectations.

an argument could be made that he's overvalued... though I'd be surprised if he didn't get 4/30M...

As good as he is at guarding guys straight up in the post, dude isn't mobile enough to anchor a defense. That, and he has no offensive game. I like Perkins and would pay him $7-8 million, but $10 million per is too much for a one-way player on a rebuilding team. Marc Gasol would be a much better investment.

boston isnt rebuilding.. and if youre talking about the Raptors i completely agree. ive never been a fan of his game. he seems too immobile for the nba.

yeah, i was talking about the raps. he's not too immobile for the NBA, he's just not a defensive anchor in my opinion. one of the best post defenders in the league if not the best, but not a guy who's going to hold down the fort like a KG or a TD. Therefore not worth $10M being a one-way player.

How? Amir is 23, has pretty good potential and is consistenly productive with his playing time.

Perkins wouldn't have been anything special if KG and Ray didn't arrive. He fits in great with the group and is a decent center, but I don't think he is worth more than 6-8 million/season.

Agreed he's over weight & won't last long if he continues to be that way.
