![]() The Pelicans have actually put together a nice core, but they need to find trades for Gordon and Vasquez now. They need to move Gordon because I dont think they can have 3 players who need the ball a lot at the 1-3, and be successful, plus he doesn't want to be there and is extremely injury prone. With Vasquez, his value is at an all time high after a very nice season this year, and he likely wont accept nor flourish in a backup role.
If they can get some decent bench pieces or picks for those two, they're looking very good for the future especially if Davis turns into the player everyone expects. A lot of people will hate on the amount of money Reke is getting, but this is the price you pay for a young player with his talent level. Plus he had a very good, but under the radar year last year, showing that he can be a more mature player that makes good decisions on both sides of the ball. He wasn't the ball stopping ISO player last year that we saw a few years ago. If him and Holiday can develop a good chemistry with one another while allowing Davis to be the main guy, the Pelicans will be in the top 4 in the West sooner than people think. |

![]() Only 4 players have ever averaged at least 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in a rookie season. The list includes Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan, Lebron James and...Tyreke Evans.
He has the ability to impact the game in many ways. The Pelicans are supposedly going to use him as a 6th man, in a Ginobili-esque/Harden-OKC-era-esque role. If he stays healthy and continues to mature, this deal will be worth the money. |

So, the Pelicans obtaining Tyreke can be viewed as good and bad news, in my opinion. Depends how you look at it. You're right that the Pelicans might do better than Philly had hoped. The Pelicans drafted 6th in 2013, and that would be perfect for Philly next year because it would be the highest spot at which they can get the Pelicans pick; and Philly definitely wants the pick in 2014. But, on the other hand, one might also view this as an insurance policy to ensure that the Pelicans have enough offensive talent to remain competitive even if Gordon goes down with injury. If you're Philly, you want the Pelicans to suck enough for the pick to be good, but you don't want them to suck so bad that the pick falls into the protected range.
