I was kidding with the Demar stuff. good lord, smh indeed.

As for George, he's not a league MVP candidate therefore a max contract is asinine. I don't give a flying fuck what he did in the playoffs.

Well this is somewhat interesting. Could it be more or less?

Quote:

Larry Bird hinted a contract extension is close between the Indiana Pacers and Paul George, but he says no deal has been finalized.

“That’s why I’m not playing golf today,” Bird said Monday. “I’m going back to the office to work on it.”

Bird said he had not seen the Yahoo! report and declined to comment on it. When asked if the length (five years) and financial figures ($90-plus million) were correct, Bird replied: “Never heard that. If I did, I wish it was my number.”

“The number has to be a number we both like,” Bird said. “That's what it's all about. It's all about money. He wants to be here. He's told me that a million times. We want him here. Let's just find a number that works for both.”

I think Paul George is overrated. I'd take Gay over George. Will probably get heat for that statement, but his team makes him look better than he really is. Put him on the Raptors and you got a slightly better derozan
Thank you.. I compared George to Demar.. but people acting as if the gap between the two is as huge as comparing Demar to Lebron James

imagine we had George and raps gave him 90mill..

This happens all the time when a young player is playing well. They're always better than whatever we have in most people's eyes. The comment earlier about trading this roster for him just to pair him with JV.....

If he has an off season or starts getting injured people will jump off this bandwagon faster than you can say over payed.

Don't get me wrong I really like his game and think he's one of the better young players in the league but some are ridiculous with their praise.

did Gay make the all star team at age 23, make all nba third team, become the most improved player, and make all nba second defensive team?

Never has, never will.

I would be beside myself if the Raps had the 23 year old George and the contract is most likely incentive based so why not? If he meets incentives then he's worth every penny. As for the comparisons, George can do everything DD does plus he defends at an elite level, can hit 3's, passes well and is a leader on and off the floor. The gap between DD to LBJ and DD to George is not as far apart as one would think imo if you look at LBJ at 23 but LBJ has raised the bar of efficiency to a level I can't see any wing player coming close to (not with the amount LBJ handles the ball). For that reason alone George should not have a max deal but the market will pay him more than his value - as we know an all star 2 way wing player (and at 23) are rare. George is only going to get better (or more concisely, more efficient as he ages). And for the record - comparing LBJ to anyone is completely unfair, he'll only end up being the GOAT when his career is done (or at the very least in the mix with MJ). If that's the barometer then there is not one max player in the league other than Lebron.

Oddly from wikipedia (someone jumped the gun).....

Quote:
In September 2013 the Indiana Pacers extended George's contract, electing him to be their designated player. The extension, which will start at the end of his rookie contract in 2014, is a "5/30" designated player extension (5 years and 30% of the salary cap), subject to passing the "Derrick Rose" test. George will need to be elected to one further All-NBA team (at any level) or be the MVP during the 2013-2014 season to qualify for the 30% extension. Should he meet these criteria, the 30% extension is estimated to be worth around $90million over the 5 year deal (should he fail to meet the criteria he will be contacted at 25% of the salary cap

Who expects to win with those two? Who said we're going far with both players here?

What he did in the playoffs he did all year....and he'll be even better this year (and I would suspect more efficient now that Granger is back taking the pressure off of him). I'll wager you'll eat these words by season's end.

Doubtful since I usually give it more time unlike most people who are all about now, considering it's a 5yr contract. And how is it that i'd be eating my words when I've just said he's one of the better players in the league? He's just not a max player yet imo. It's not that big a deal, just a matter of opinion.

Not 5yrs but at least see if you think he is worth the contract two years in. You don't think it's possible that after 2 seasons he'll be looked upon as over payed? Really? That inconceivable?

Of course not but it's not like the contract is for 18 per....so if he has that off year then no worries for the Pacers, if he meets the incentives, All NBA team or League MVP then he's worth every penny.

No one is saying his contract is an albatross, even I said perhaps he isn't worth the 18m annually. However, the bone to pick here is people saying he's not that good or that Gay and DeRozan are not far off/better than George is. Those guys...

I didn't mention Rudy Gay in my post, was referring to Demar, but yes we can all agree that the contract is too high

I even thought Chris Pauls contract was too high.. they will have good seasons in clip land, but they ain't winning

last year roy hibbert was considered overpayed, but he met expectations just fine. I guess they're considering the same concept when it comes to george this year. There's just something about the Pacers' culture where players are molded to perform.

Actually we're suggesting the gap between George and Lebron is slighter than the gap between George and Demar. Gay and George are the comparable players.

It could go either way with his potential. They paid for the future, just like the grizz and gay. That didnt work out for them though
