Pacers Pacers desperate to unload T.J Ford

Years??

So who won the JO trade? lol

Quote:
NEW YORK -- Pacers point guard T.J. Ford is on the trading block, which is and isn't news.

It might be news to those of you hanging onto him in fantasy leagues clinging to the hope that he'll soon get his starting job back from Earl Watson, but it isn't news to anyone in an NBA front office.

Indiana has been trying to trade Ford for "years," an NBA source told ESPN.com on Sunday night as Ford sat out the entire 48 minutes and Indiana was steamrolled 132-89 by the New York Knicks. "Not weeks. Not months. Years," the source said.

Ford, the eighth overall pick of the 2003 draft, was demoted from starter to third-stringer (behind Watson and rookie A.J. Price) prior to Indiana's victory on Saturday over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Ford's pecking-order status has dropped to just above the doghouse level that was occupied by Jamaal Tinsley all last season in Indiana.

It is a far, far fall for a player who started 25 of Indiana's first 30 games this season, a fall that appears will remain permanent barring an injury to Watson or Price. The source cited above said Indiana has practically given up hope of trying to trade Ford, who is making $8.5 million and has a player option worth another $8.5 million for next season. He is so certain to exercise that option, we'll go ahead at this early date and name him to the starting five on the 2010-11 dead money team.

Chances are, it'll be money that will still be on Indiana's cap a year from now, when "expiring contract" will be required to always appear in the same sentence with the words "T.J." and "Ford."

They are saying years as if he has been in Indy for 10 years.

I know, he's been there a total of 1.5yrs.

And i'm guessing that for at least half that they weren't desperate to trade him.

the knicks should grab him.

funny, anytime a player is mentioned in any unloading/trade scenario, why is it that i automatically think of the knicks.

Question is, did he end up benched based on poor play or on attitude? al-la Nate Robinson

I don't the Raptors did give up 2 first round picks for JO. I'd rather have TJ and the 2 picks tell you the truth

JO was a class act. TJ was a cancer. Both ended up in either suits or on the end of a bench, so I'd rather take JO and his professionalism than TJs me-me-me act.

damn. I feel a little bad for TJ.
He had so much potential and was spoken so highly of just a short while ago.

He probably brought this on himself, but I don't like seeing people suffer.

Sorry big guy that's not worth two first round picks to me. Besides the whole "TJ is a cancer" fiasco was so incredibly overblown, so media-fabricated and hyped that it was unfair to TJ.

If worst came to worst TJ easily could have been unloaded for expirings, BC was doing everything he could to drop him, it's not like we were stuck with him.

Last time I checked JO was an expiring.

2 first rounders were nothing. Probably mid 20's if we make the playoffs. Nothing to risky unless there is a hidden gem.

TJ had his chance..TWICE! And he blew it both times with his big mouth.

Yup how could you measure 2 first round picks with class. I also agree that TJ was wrongfully done in with the media.

If the Raptors stuck by their players they whould low ball Jose and keep TJ his job.

Although the spaniard didn't want to play that game and got what he wanted.

JO wasn't so great himself.

The team was 3-0 and he was complaining about how he was being used to the coaches.

Aw, come on. Are you saying you'd rather take TJs ego over JOs? (which rarely comes out)

It also looks like JO taught Bargs how to be an effective bigman, something TJ wouldn't know how to do. Yes, the JO trade didn't pan out as we expected, but it did have its bright spots.

Half a season of teaching Bargs how to post up is a bright spot? That is worth Two first round picks? Heck I woulda just hired Bill Russell for a season and let him learn off a legend.

JO trade was an absolute disater. Only bright spot is that TJ isn't shoting 4% in 3pt. FGs for the raptors

Even when he's not a starter, he's the starter.

What makes you think Bill Russell would work for us?

Alright, if those 2 1st rounders amount to ANYTHING, I will take back what I've said. But I seriously think you guys are overreacting about these picks. They were just a small gamble at what could have possibly made us contenders in the East

Didn't Jack and TJ have a blow out last year in a game ??? From what I can remember Jack was sent to the locker room/showers while the coach kept TJ in the game. We all know that TJ has an attitude now time will tell if Jack has one !
