Default Olympiakos reportedly offering Kobe $83 million untaxed

Take it for what it's worth.

Quote:
It's being reported that Olympiakos is preparing to offer Kobe an absurd $83 million contract - untaxed - next summer that will include these nice extra throw-ins:

In that contract there will be an incredible list of benefits, a villa in the Mediterranean Sea, pay all the taxes at the expense of the club, to pay the bills for the staff and for a private boat for Kobe Bryant. The article also says that they are planning to form Olympiakos into an NBA style club with a court that fits 15-20 thousand seats and a private jet for the team.

Yeah, Kobe would be immensely stupid if he didn't take it. Maybe we'll see LBJ in Los Angeles?

yeah, 83 is up there, BUT the most important piece of info here, which is missing, is how many years.

If I was him, I'd play with this Laker team for the next 5 years and go for a championship to cement his status as an all-timer, and then when he hits mid to late 30s sign a Beckham contract in Europe. He'll still be one of the best players in the league by then, and those teams want him more for the crowds than as a player, so they'll buck up. He can have his cake and eat it too in this situation, I think.

Not to mention that if he wins a number of championships with this team and becomes one of the all time best, his endorsements for the rest of his life will be higher and might make up for whatever he loses by rejecting this contract. If Kobe exits on this team, he'll be the ultimate NBA villain.

All these rumors are just crap. There has been no offer so far, no talks between Olympiacos and the player and THERE IS NOT GONNA BE AN OFFER THIS SUMMER. All these are just media and manager tricks.

Kobe makes 23 mil a year plus endorsements in a city hes used to and hes still got a lot to prove. Besides the fact that he seems like an introvert and doesnt seem like a chance in hell hed move out of the country at this point, I think his compettitive fire and the fact that he makes more money a year here then he would there(unless its 83 mil a season???), I dont see any reason he would go over there unless he was in his 40s and retiring or a bench warmer.

Hey guys you are making many mistakes.

First of all, one players cannot make real difference in European Basketball. Especially if he comes having in mind its gonna be a holiday.

Secondly, Olympiacos wants to make a strong team to last and have an impact in International football. It's not like Galaxy or the MLS, they are not gonna give 83 million for a player close to retirement.

The money is really to much. 83+19% on taxes=98,77
Plus a Meditteranean villa (about 5-10 millions) makes a total amount of 104-109 millions. Just for one year???For tourism??? In Greece we are making monumental campaigns to bring tourists. We are not paying them to come visit us.

What is more Olympiacos will do major investments. A new 17,000-20,000 arena, a new jet for the team etc. All these are much of important for the establishment of a powerful club than signing one player.

Metro that may be all true, but never rule out the greediness of an owner. I doubt this 83 million or whatever, is for one year. Would make sense if it was spread over 4 years.

I don't dispute what you're saying on the whole, I'm just saying that you never know. Football has shown that owners spend ridiculous sums on players. Basketball seems to be heading that way and I'm starting to think that maybe due to the faltering US economy, some rich business owners who own teams overseas are trying to take advantage of the situation.

Even if it were 83 million for 4 years tax free - that's still WAY better than the NBA.
He'll still get endorsements overseas, play half the games of a regular NBA season, get staff waiting on him hand and foot. Why the hell not?

Thriller, Kobe is the MOST likely to bolt for Europe, the guy lived there growing up and likes to project himself as refined. I believe he'd go, and I would support that 100%.

He should go. Thats a hell of a proposed deal.
