Apparently so

No, they won't be called the SuperSonics. They already listed the options. I can't remember them though. :(

Major 07-08-2008 10:55 AM

This should not be good for Seattle fans, apparently, they hate OKC. I'd love to see what happens next year. They probably won't sell-out one game....if they have already i dont know.

Who won't sell out one game?

OKC I'm sure will sell out many games. I don't think there are any fears of that at this point.

Oklahoma City won't sell out? When the Hornets were there, they sold out pretty much every game. They'd pretty much be the only game in town.

I'm just saying because a lot of Seattle fans hate this idea of moving city (which obviously comes to no surprise) and that maybe a lot of them won't be able/or won't want to come to the games. But then again there are guys in OKC who would want to watch games. I don't know. I don't even know what their average attendance is and how often they sell-out, I have no idea.

Of course Seattle fans won't come to Oklahoma games. Do you know how far Seattle is from Oklahoma City?

Oklahoma will be in the upper-tier of attendance this season.

Dr. J. Naismith 07-08-2008 11:09 AM

I don't imagine there being a ton of Sonics fans in Oklahoma anyways, probably just lots of fans of the the various Texas teams, maybe some New Orleans fans as well Memphis ones too. They'll have alot of new fans this season in OKC.

The loyal Seattle fans will either become OKC fans or find themselves a new team to root for. If geography has anything to do with it, Portland might have a shit load more fans this fall. ;)

You seem confused...

Last year they played in Seattle.

Next year the same team will play in Oklahoma City.

As such, there will be no NBA team in Seattle.

Seattle fans being upset about the move has no impact on OKC's ticket sales because said upset fans live in Seattle, and are likely not in the market for OKC tickets.

OKC's average attendance and number of sellouts are currently non-existant, as they didn't have a team last year, you see.

If you're looking for an indication of how the team will do attendance-wise, take a look at the numbers from when the Hornets were playing there. Keep in mind though, that attendance is always going to be great in the short term. If the "Sonics" are still wading through lottery-land 5 years from now, then we'll see what kind of numbers OKC can actually pull.

And we'll see how much money Clay Bennet is willing to lose to keep a team in OKC. He's already lost a bundle getting it there.

Vancouver Grizzlies fans perhaps?!?!?

What's that? Seven years too late, you say? Blast!

Belsius 07-08-2008 05:16 PM

The next time I go to see my family from oklahoma I hope I can catch a game.

My uncle got season tickets for the time the Hornets where there and he told me a lot of people went to the games and that a franchise would do really well in OKC. Apparently everybody is eager to have a franchise in the big leagues since they all left.

Gurk 07-08-2008 09:43 PM

no the OKC wont be the sonics they will be the other four names chosen(which i forgot)

Major 07-08-2008 09:59 PM

Thunder, Thunderbirds, Twisters and Sonics.

Here are some sources:

It won't be Sonics. Bennett said his group will unveil a new nickname and new colours in the next few weeks after considering all the suggestions they've received.

Telling you guys... Thunderbirds is the lamest name, so that's what it'll end up being.

It's like Indy 4. They released like 8 names at the beginning to tease people, and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was by far the gayest. Guess what it ended up being? :haha:

Agreed 100% who in their right mind would think its a good name?

Thunderbirds would be horrible. It would immediately turn into "T-birds" and people would just think of classic cars.

But apparently another name that's been rumoured is "Barons". Which is really not that bad. I kind of like it.

rapsfan087 07-09-2008 09:20 AM

It wasn't the Thunder Cats ... I was already calling them the Noisy Kitties.

'trane 07-09-2008 11:17 AM

thunderbirds is the name of the UBC teams. that's my alma mater. back off hosers!
