Official: Howard to Lakers

The Cavaliers have emerged as a facilitator in a trade that would send Dwight Howard from the Magic to the Lakers.

Cleveland would acquire Andrew Bynum for a package of draft picks and Anderson Varejao.

Los Angeles would receive Howard, while Orlando would acquire Varejao and a collection of picks.

The Rockets have also been engaged in three-way trade talks.

Cleveland is gonna be sick if this happens! How can LAL and Orlando not agree on a deal that gives Orlando Bynum? Varejao.......yuck

Nothing new has been reported. One day it's ORL/HOU, another day it's ORL/HOU/LAL, now it's LAL/ORL/CLE. I won't believe anything until it happens or until Woj confirms it.

I agree but this actually might have traction. If any team has picks to share it would be Cleveland.

Bynum has come out and said he won't sign an extension in Orlando. The Cavs have a really nice core developing....I can see Bynum going there.

Supposedly they don't want Bynum because they'd be in a similar situation they're in now with Dwight, because Bynum is on the last year of his contract. Maybe Bynum doesn't want to re-sign there (I still don't believe that). Also, as Presti's protege, Hennigan wants picks for their rebuilding process. Cleveland has 7 first rounders in the next three years. On top of all this, ORL would likely suck badly if they made this trade. That means they'd also have their own pick which could likely end up being a top 5 pick.

So all in all for ORL: Varejao (could become a valuable trade piece), 3 expiring contracts, 2 prospects, 3-4 first rounders, plus their own top 5 pick, and the ability to dumb their 2 worst contracts seems like a pretty good deal to me.

Thing is, this rumour is not new. LAL/CLE/ORL rumour came out three or four days ago, but Cavs "pulled out". Now the rumour has come up again. Who knows if it has any legs. Obviously, I wish it were true, but I'm skeptical about any Dwight rumours.

That's not true. Bynum has been fishing in Alaska. All those rumours that he won't re-sign could just be made up. It could be true, but Bynum has not confirmed so himself.

With Jamison gone and Parker retiring wouldn't that free up 22mil off the cap hold? I'm thinking the Cavs could just absorb most of Howards contract - DanH could probably clarify that but I think the Cavs could do that and keep the other expirings for other trades. 100% regarding those picks...this would be the team for Orlando to trade with.

Bynum outright stated he won't resign in Orlando and I wouldn't either as that team heads for hell for a couple of years. Besides, if I'm Bynum I think I'd rather play with Irving and Waiters than stay in Orlando.

Regardless, if you're Bynum would you want to stay in years of rebuild in Orlando or play with a backcourt of ROY Irving/Waiters?

EDIT: I think in this scenario, this trifecta of teams would be ideal...a really good trade for all 3 in the long run.

No doubt he'd want to be with CLE over Orlando. I just know that Bynum has an ego and wants his own team. He thinks he deserves it too. On top of that, with his glass knees, he'd be stupid to leave $20 million on the table and not re-sign with Orlando if he were traded there. That's just my opinion. And if he went to Orlando, a couple years of rebuilding wouldn't be a complete waste. Bynum is just 24 years old.

I'm curious about that regarding Bynum...if it's a 3 team trade like this and Bynum goes to the Cavs wouldn't the Cavs receive his bird rights just like Orlando would if it was a straight trade between the Lakers/Magic? If the situation is better on the Cavs.....

You're right about the ego thing, however on the Cavs there is no Kobe keeping him in check. No way Irving stops Bynum taking the team over if that were the case. Getting Bynum away from Kobe might be a good thing. Also, regarding ego, how about resurrecting a team the LBJ devastated and then taking on LBJ for the next several years?

Yes, you're right. I was saying that if ORL got Bynum, I don't think he'd just leave that much money on the table. Basically, I'm saying Bynum will re-sign with whoever acquires him. I'm sure he prefers CLE over ORL but it may not be his choice.

It's not necessarily about preference. I do think he'll re-sign with the team that has his bird rights. That's all I'm saying.
