If I'm San Antonio I'm talking to DAL about getting Dirk. At this point they need a home run trade like that just to remain relevant.

I don't see what the big deal is. You have 3 teams that improved in varying degrees and one team in rebuild mode. At least this league isn't dolling out 15yr contracts. Every league has issues. Can't wait for this season to start!

The Lakers are giving up a lot more to get Howard who is expiring than they gave up to get Pau Gasol in his prime 4-5 years ago.

I'm definitely excited for the season to start.... I'm just annoyed that the Lakers ALWAYS get these deals lol.

They gave up a top 3 NBA Center + his bird rights for the #1 Center who expires in a year + filler. It's a lot more fair than the Gasol trade several years ago.

8 hours of sleep later and I still have no idea why ORL would accept garbage 1st round picks, 1 good player on a long term deal and an unproven rookie instead of multiple unproven rookies, good 1st round picks, and a choice of whatever they want on the Rockets roster. Just mindboggling.

Dwight Howard will be on a new, presumably maximum contract for the 13-14 season.

The Lakers already have financial commitments to Kobe Bryant at $30.45 million, Pau Gasol at $19.285 million, Steve Nash at $9.3 million, Steve Blake at $4 million and Jordan Hill at $3.563 million.*

When including Howard's expected maximum contract, the Lakers will have approximately $92 million committed to just six players.

With a tax line at $75 million, the Lakers would owe $34.3 million for just those six players.

Thank you. People need to stop acting like Lakers got Dwight for free. Three of the four teams made a great trade.

Just ridiculous how it all worked out. Lakers were supposed to get Chris Paul for Odom and Gasol but it got vetoed. So they somehow keep Gasol and add Nash. Gasol + Nash > Paul alone. Then Mitch trades Bynum for the best big man in the game. Who would've thought the vetoed trade would end up being a good thing?

Mitch = best GM in the league.

They got Nash for free..... Dwight they paid a light price. I hope they win it this year cause I'm tired of Miami getting the calls.

The Gasol trade was fair imo. Grizz got expiring contracts, got the cap space to sign Zach Randolph, and also acquired Marc Gasol as part of the trade. That's a great trade for both teams.

Marc Gasol at the time was a prospect. They got absolutely no proven talent for one of the best bigs in the game at the time. Memphis got lucky that Gasol turned out pretty good.

Yeah I can see Paus numbers going down to 14+9 but I think his defence will look better and he'll still be involved in the Lakers offence with easy passes to Dwight and also outside jumpers, but hes going to post up even less next year.

Nash will probably be at 11+10 on his usual great percentages. I think his assist numbers would be higher but the Lakers are going to blow out so many teams next year he wont need to play much.

Kobe will be at his usual 26-27 PPG on less shots, and Dwight the same production with maybe less rebounding, but I expect his PPG to be around 22-24 with all of the easy opportunities hes going to get

And that "top 3 C" just got absolutely dominated by McGee in the playoffs lol.

Bynum's good... but let's be real here.... that's a landslide win for L.A.

I agree with Thrills too... mind-boggled that ORL didn't find a taker for Hedo.
