Odom deal imminent with Lakers - or not???

Odom deal imminent with Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers assistant general manager Ronnie Lester expects the reigning NBA champions to complete a deal with Lamar Odom early next week, according to the Orange County Register.

Lester told the Register that he heard the Lakers' offer was now a "little north of 8 million" a year. It is believed that Odom is seeking at least $10 million a season, but the Lakers reportedly offered $7 million.

Another Lakers forward Adam Morrison is also expected to return next season. Barring a trade, Morrison and his guaranteed contract could leave Sun Yue as the odd-man out in GM Mitch Kupchak's maximum roster of 13 players.

That almost guarantees the Lakers another championship, with their only major hurdle being the Celtics.

He's being swindled badly into less money, but at this point he has nowhere else to go. Teams have offered money, and free agents have signed, and what is left is for Odom to take now.

It's a shame Pritchard of the Blazers refuses to court this man for the 10 million they have available. Pritchard once known as the 'man who beat the NBA' now reveals his true self as the whiny ****h who only just knew how to get ownership to spend money.

At least Odom will achieve success instantly and beyond in Los Angeles. Kobe-Gasol-Odom-Artest >>> Kobe-Gasol-Odom-Ariza.

Plus, how sweet would it be to have Odom and Oden on the same team?? The commentators would constantly be making mistakes

lakers pull offer to odom:

Sources: Frustrated Los Angeles Lakers pull offer to Lamar Odom - ESPN

Quote:
LAS VEGAS -- Lamar Odom and the Los Angeles Lakers had reached an agreement on annual salary before the Lakers pulled out of contract talks with their versatile sixth man, sources with knowledge of the talks said on Tuesday.

Odom

Sources told ESPN.com that Odom and the Lakers had reached an accord entering the weekend on a per-season wage of $9 million for the 29-year-old. But Odom balked at L.A.'s unwillingness to extend an offer spanning more than three years in length and spent the past few days weighing his options.

The Los Angeles Times reported on its Web site earlier Tuesday night that Lakers owner Jerry Buss, upset that he was still waiting for Odom's response, has decided to take the offer off the table. Yet one source told ESPN.com that Odom was never given a deadline to accept or pass on the Lakers' three-year, $27 million pitch.

Lakers spokesman John Black acknowledged to the Times that "talks have broken down for the time being" but conceded that a resumption in negotiations is "within the realm of possibility," which most rival teams would expect given Odom's importance during the Lakers' championship run last season and the fact that the only apparent issue between the sides is contract length.

Neither Odom nor agent Jeff Schwartz could be reached for comment Tuesday night.

Yet it's believed that Odom has indeed received offers from the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks that -- because neither Florida nor Texas imposes state taxes -- are not as far away in value from the Lakers' presentation as it would seem.

Odom would have the ability with either the Heat or the Mavericks to sign a three-year, $19 million contract and negotiate a new deal with full Larry Bird rights in the summer of 2012 or take a five-year deal worth $34 million to bank more overall money, along with the state-tax benefits, than he could in a new three-year deal with the Lakers.

Artest coming in and signing a conservative contract essentially pissed on Odom's money train. He looks stupid demanding $50M when they got Artest for $18 and the Lakers cap number is already through the roof. What they should have done, in my honest opinion, was do everything possible to keep Ariza, sign Artest and let Odom walk. No one else is going to give the guy $10M/yr like the Lakers offered him.

I think Odom will now end up in Portland. I mean those guys need to keep pissing off Rudy Fernandez after all.

Odom is pretty stupid to be demanding 10 million in the first place.
i think as soon as he saw Ariza bolt, he thought he would be able to strut around like hot shit and believed the Lakers would give in to him and bend over backwards for him. guess he thought wrong.

I hope he goes to Dallas. That would definitely spice up the Western Conference.

Both sides are being too demanding. Honestly, Odom isn't worth $10 million/year if he is going to be coming off the bench most of the time, and now that they have Artest his role will diminish. Having said that, him coming back will all but guarantee a Laker repeat, so they do need him back. Why not just compromise and settle on a price that's fair to both sides... about $8.25 million/year for three years.

I like this guy, and him signing with portland would be the greatest thing ever.

Portland has already stepped on the lakers in the season and with an addition of odom, who when he is on his A game is literally the best player on the court.

Roy and Odom would look ridiculous.

Dallas could really use a big playmaker like him.

But then who goes to the bench?

Odom? Howard?

If Dallas ever picked up Odom, Howard would be put on the trade block faster than Cuban could say "yahoo".
his name has been in so many trade rumours in the past, it wouldnt be a surprise... and since his contract is over next season, it would be even more incentive to trade him away.
Dallas really needs a good bigman or 2 guard, and have Terry be their 6th man again.

If Odom won't take three years @ $10M/yr from the Lakers he's not taking the MLE from the Mavs. That is unless you're talking S&T.

no, Odom wants 10 mil... the lakers offered him 7/8.
which means he isnt too interested in winning and is looking for a payday.
who has the money to offer him that? portland? who else?

i bet he ends up in Oregon when alls said and done.

Can't he be interested in both winning and getting paid like 99% of the league?
