Oden on Oden
Good read about Greg Oden, what he has gone through, own thoughts on injuries, and plan for the future.

As the start of the 2010-11 season approached, he believed he was making strides with his rehab but didn't think his body was ready to practice at full speed. Feeling guilty about missing so much of those first three years, he returned to practice against his better judgment. In hindsight, Greg said he regrets that decision as much as those cell phone pictures, because rushing back to practice played a big part in him needing another microfracture surgery, this time on the same knee he had been rehabbing because of the broken knee cap.

Although Greg never took my bait and blamed the Blazers for his premature return, it's impossible not to wonder if Portland's medical staff contributed to any of the problems Greg endured during his injury-plagued career. This isn't to say Greg never would've gotten hurt had he played somewhere else, but Portland's medical staff has long been rumored to be less than stellar.4 At any rate, nobody can deny that Greg genuinely felt pressured either by the Blazers, their doctors, his own guilt, or all three to return to the court before his body was ready. That's why he claims he wasn't surprised that he needed a second microfracture surgery. That's why he responded to the news by shrugging his shoulders and saying "OK" as if he had just been told by a McDonald's employee that the McFlurry machine wasn't working.

Awesome article. Definitely learned some things I didn't know.

Our doctors are whack. I think they are Laker spies, and were hired to undermine the Blazers organization with false medical diagnosis, and dangerously strenuous rehabs after injuries.

I just posted this tidbit on the Blazers official fan site

This is no joke, their have been serious and blatant failures by this team's medical staff in recent years.

I'll list a couple off the top of my head:

Batum torn shoulder labrum, you're just sore, play through it buddy.

Steve Blake, same thing

Rudy Fernandez, sore back after getting slugged mid-air by Trevor Ariza. This medical team said you are fine Rudy, it's all in your brain, it's mental soreness. Your back should be 100%. NO!! There was a small sliver of bone jabbing into his spinal cord that these "doctors" could not see. It was found by an outside 3rd opinion.

Greg Oden, my knees hurt, play though it buddy, you'll be strong in no time.- My knee's swollen, - ummmm, Microfracture! That's what you need Greg, you'll be strong again in no time.

Brandon Roy, my knees hurt, - OK, we're gonna take a little snip out here, then throw you back on the court, sound good?

Most recent of course LaMarcus Aldridge sore hip. Blazer doctors trying to convince L.A. it's just the wear and tear of this fast & furious Lockout schedule. Play through the pain buddy, be a man. Lamarcus seeks outside 3rd opinion. (Blazer doctors "Oh darn") Yuuuuup. Our All-Star needs hip surgery.

This teams training room is run like an old Soviet Union country. It's time we knock the walls down.
