Nuggets get Renaldo Balkman

DENVER (AP)—The Denver Nuggets have acquired forward Renaldo Balkman from the New York Knicks in exchange for guard Taurean Green, forward Bobby Jones and a second-round draft pick in 2010.

The Nuggets also get cash in the deal, announced Monday by Mark Warkentien, Denver’s vice president of basketball operations.

The 6-foot-8 Balkman averaged 3.4 points and 3.3 rebounds in 65 games for the Knicks last season. He has averaged 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in two seasons with the Knicks, shooting .499 from the field.

Green averaged 1.1 points in nine appearances with Denver last season. Jones averaged 3.4 points and 1.5 rebounds in two stints with the Nuggets during the 2007-08 season.

This is a steal for Denver IMO

This guy was misused by the Knicks. When he is healthy he's a great player and will help Denver on defense and rebounding. Also he's a pretty good ball handler.

Hes a solid 15 mpg guy at best. He isnt much of a ballhandler because no one respects his shot and thus he cant drive at all and gets ALL his points off the glass, which at the SF position, isnt good.

Hes still solid for a 10th man though.

Not saying Green and Jones are anything to brag about, but that's alot to give up for the calibre of player that Balkman is.

Balkman is certainly more than a 10th man.

He brings absolutely nothing to the table offensively, but Denver doesn't exactly need another scorer.

He defends and rebounds well from that 3/4 spot and thats what the Nuggets need.

They also only gave up two guys who have barely played minutes in the league.

Thats a nice deal for Denver.

Im not much of fan of balkman and some of that's probably due to who he played for and the erratic situation. i kind of like his athleticism in denver. they like to get up and down and a guy who can run and finish might fit in nice there...
