Nuggets Nuggets agree to 5 year deal with Afflalo

So, looks like Denver now has $110 million committed to Afflalo and Nene over the next 5 years. Not sure I like that, but it's the cost of keeping them for the longterm, I guess.

Quote:
The Denver Nuggets have agreed to a five-year deal with restricted free agent Arron Afflalo.

The Denver Post first reported Monday night the guard had agreed to a contract that could be worth up to $43 million.

Nuggets coach George Karl was preaching the importance of bringing back Afflalo, the player he considered the "glue guy" of the team.

Yeah, IIRC, Simmons predicted $50 mill over 5 years if another team tried to sign him. He thought another team might try to outbid the Nuggets. It looks like Denver got lucky by avoiding having to match any offers. Perhaps the other teams knew Denver would match anything in the $45 mill range and just didn't want to pay the 50.

He's come a long way since his days in Detroit at least.

Well, while in Detroit, Afflalo was still a young prospect who didn't get many minutes. He wasn't bad. Dumars is an idiot and Chauncey Billups deserves a thank you. Billups was traded to the Nuggets the year before and told Denver to go after him if they were looking for a cheap rotation player. Dumars gave him up for a second rounder. Unbelievable. He even paid Denver some cash to take him. *facepalm* Out of the trades involving complementary type players, that was one of the worst of the decade.
