Default Novak stays in NYK for $15million/4yrs!

Free-agent forward Steve Novak has agreed to a four-year, $15 million deal to return to the Knicks, according to his agent, Mark Bartelstein.

Novak led the NBA in three-point accuracy at 47.2 percent last season, when the six-year veteran averaged career highs of 8.8 points and 18.9 minutes. He made 85 three-pointers after the All-Star break, second most in the NBA behind Clippers guard Randy Foye's 87. For the season, 133 of Novak's 161 field goals were three-pointers.
From SportsIllustrated:

The Knicks signed the 29-year-old Novak last December after San Antonio waived him. Novak has also played for the Rockets, Clippers and Mavericks since Houston selected him No. 32 in the 2006 draft.

New York was able to exceed the salary cap to re-sign the sharpshooter after an arbitrator ruled last month that players claimed off waivers like Novak should receive their Early Bird rights. (The NBA appealed the ruling and ultimately settled with the players' union.) The decision also applied to Knicks restricted free agent Jeremy Lin, who plans to sign a four-year, $28.8 offer sheet from the Rockets. New York is expected to match the offer and keep the 23-year-old point guard.

I guess the Fields deal isn't too bad.

I don't think the money is HORRIBLE, just the number of years are wow.

He is the best shooter in the league. Can't do anything else though.

that's the kind of deal Landry Fields was worth. NYK did better on this than we did.

BS Carp, LF is not as one dimensional as Novak is. And we can at least move LF if it doesn't pan out as a big expiring in the 3rd year. Barring a trade NY is stuck with a very limited player for at least 3. I think the deal is right for both players.

BS? Name one thing Landry Fields is exceptional at? I can name something for Novak.

LF is overpaid, period. Simply suggesting that his 9M expiring is going to net you something fantastic is kind of ridiculous. I'd much rather take the lesser contract with a player that is going to make a similar impact.

LF will play 24-30 mpg. Novak is at most a 18 mpg type player.

At 6'7" Landry Fields is an exeptional rebounder when givin 31 per game he can get you nearly 6.5 rebounds per game.

Just for that, you aren't allowed on the Landry Fields bandwagon this season.

I'm with you carp. I'm not saying that Novak is a better player, or that i'd rather have him here, but lets face it the difference in skill is marginal and the difference in money is pretty significant.

Novak's only claim to fame his being on a hot streak for 3's. He can't do nothing else, especially defend. LF started his first year, went to the rookie all star game and is overall a better rounded player than Novak. Not even close. Not sure all the dislike for him, his contract is great for what he does. And great for the team if he has to be moved as an expiring. This view of him is quite ridiculous.

I don't think the view that Fields is marginally better than the best three point shooter in the NBA is ridiculous.

holy fuck who cares. we all know why Fields was offered a contract, so shut the fuck up already, you people are absolutely insane, all of you.

Your beating the horse long after its dead.

Landry Fields is good, he is getting paid more because Toronto tried to get Nash, dust is settling, you still have a pretty good player in Fields, and really wtf do you guys care about what he's paid, it aint breaking the bank. Continually droning on and on and on and on about how he isn't worth the cash, when you know why he got it, is absolutely stupid. Do you really, at the end of the day, have any point to make at all, other than stating the obvious, then somehow standing by and feeling somehow superior in thought for having said it???
