Default Nikola Pekovic

6'11" 290lbs and has some GAME. Damn!

Had to Wiki this guy to see where the heck he came from lol.... credit to Minny for taking this guy and waiting for him to come over. Minny may have made some questionable moves (the PG obsession) but they're making up for it with finds like these.

Was he this promising over in europe? Can any guys from over there weigh in?

He's what Hoffa should have been.

He's an awesome offensive rebounder, hes got a very nice touch, hes got good feet, and most of all, he's smart and knows where to be on both sides of the ball. He knows how to use his body. He's going to be key for them starting in their quest to make the playoffs. Him and Love on the offensive boards is a handful

Dude just makes the right plays. Plays simple and smart. He also looks like he could fight and beat a bear.

Kahn, the one with the PG obsession and the guy who pratically gave Al Jefferson away, did not draft Pekovic. I picked this guy up on my fantasy team a week ago when Belsius mentioned him in Thriller's thread. When I looked at his profile, the first thing I noticed was that he was drafted in 2008 with Kevin Love. McHale, not Kahn, was responsible for the Love trade and drafting Pekovic in 2008. Kahn took over in 2009 and started making the really questionable moves.

Quote:
The rapid improvement of Timberwolves center Nikola Pekovic doesn't surprise Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale, who selected Pekovic in the second round of the 2008 NBA draft when McHale was the Wolves' general manager.

Pekovic played two more years in the Greek League before joining the Wolves last season. Foul trouble limited his production last season, but the native of Montenegro is averaging 14.1 points and 9.2 rebounds and shooting 62.5 percent in the Wolves' past seven games.

Pekovic started Saturday night and had 11 points and nine rebounds in the Wolves' 100-91 win over Houston at Target Center.

"I liked him a lot when we drafted him," McHale said of Pekovic before the game. "He's a rugged guy. It's a different game over here, but he's adjusting. Some guys it takes awhile to adjust to the NBA game."

Pekovic made his fourth start Saturday night in place of Darko Milicic, who has a left quadriceps bruise. Wolves coach Rick Adelman said Milicic's leg "tightened up" after Friday's game at New Jersey, and he was held out Saturday as a precaution.

In the meantime, Pekovic has been a worthy fill-in for Milicic, including a career-high 27 points at New Jersey.

"He's really been consistent the last two weeks," Adelman said. "He's been able to keep himself out of foul trouble, which keeps him in the game. He's playing a lot smarter now."

Pekovic has yet to foul out this season. He committed only one foul in 29.3 minutes Saturday night. He averaged

Physically he reminds me of Ioannis Bourousis (who abused Bargs this summer in an Italy vs Greece game). I don't know anything about Bourousis. Why is he not playing in the NBA?

I think that Big Sofo couldn't be a starter in a good team, because he is undersized C. But I would still take him over Magloire or Gray

Sofo isnt anywhere near quick enough to play any kind of minutes in the NBA. He'd have to shed a bunch of pounds before even thinking about stepping foot in the NBA or he'd just be Eddy Curry of the past few years

best Euroleague's big man a few years back.
All Euroleague first team and such.
I'm amazed it took so long for them to give him a good chance. If not for Darko's injuries, he probably still wouldn't play more than 10 min a game.
The guy came into the NBA as a rookie with more impressive career than Darko's... and they bury him. Wolves....
And he played well last year despite the minutes. He maybe didn't have great stats. But he was clearly better than Darko. Kurt Rambis just blows my mind.

idk about promising. i think he had an injury a few years back. but he was very very good. He played for a poor team and that team was blowing everyone apart, teams with 10x the payroll.
