Smile New flopping policy announced

Seems a little light, but it's a start.

Quote:
The NBA has announced a new policy for flopping.

The NBA defines flopping as "any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player."

Players will be given a warning for their first offense, followed by a $5k fine for their second offense, $10k for their third, $15k for their fourth and $30k for their fifth fine.

For violations after the fifth incident, players can receive an increase fine and/or suspension.

Who calls flops?
Referees are dumb enough to fall for most of them. Really use replay? Or is it called after the game?

i think it could be called in game and they're also reviewed after games by the league.

if plays will be reviewed after games this will work. not because of these ridiculously low fines but mostly because of reputation some players will try to avoid.

does taking offensive fouls falls under this definition of "flop"? sounds like it is - I hope it is, I mean. NBA should get rid of these stupid offensive foul calls.

The NBA issued flop-ping warnings to Minnesota's JJ Bar-ea and Cleveland's Donald Sloan on Monday, the first two under a new policy designed to end the act.

Barea threw his upper body backward after contact while defending Sacramento's Jimmer Fredette in the fourth quarter on Friday. Sloan tumbled wildly to the court a few feet from contact after a pick set against him by Chicago's Nazr Mohammed on Friday.

The NBA announced a new policy in pre-season to stop the act of players dramatically overselling contact in hopes of tricking referees into calling fouls. League officials review plays and inform players if something they did falls under the league's definition of a flop, which is "any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player."

The second offence comes with a $5,000 fine, followed by $10,000 for a third, $15,000 for a fourth and $30,000 for a fifth. Additional flops after that could lead to a suspension.

On Monday, Barea said he drew two charging fouls in the game against the Kings and assumed he was flagged for one of those. His coach, Rick Adelman, is concerned about the policy and its enforcement, wondering if the 6-foot Puerto Rican guard was targeted for his get-under-your-skin reputation.

"I've said it before, I think it's something that they can certainly look at, but I don't know how anybody, you know, a thousand miles away on TV can tell if somebody gets hit or not hit. I think anybody here, if somebody does that to you, you're going to flinch," Adelman said, swinging his arm upward toward reporters.

"And he got hit. The play that they're talking about, the guy hit him in the face and he got called for a foul. I don't understand how he can get a warning foul."

Adelman really makes him self look stupid here

How stupid is this guy. A there not calling fouls on flinching. B its called instant replay buddy...you know, its pretty easy to see if a guy got hit or not when you have super slow motion, HD footage, and 3 different angles on the play...hes just pissed because JJ is one of those notorious floppers and hes worried there gonna lose out on a few W's if the flops have to stop.....

Actually, if you watch the video, he hits himself in the face, it's too funny.
