Nets prep Dwight Howard offer

Quote:

The New Jersey Nets are prepared to offer a trade package featuring Brook Lopez and two future first-round picks to acquire Dwight Howard before the Orlando Magic center becomes a free agent in July 2012, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com this week that, to sweeten the proposal, New Jersey would likewise offer to take back the contract of Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu, who has three seasons left on his contract worth just under $35 million. Absorbing Turkoglu's remaining salary would become financially feasible for the Nets after the expected release of swingman Travis Outlaw through the amnesty clause that will be included in the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement and by including another smaller contract or two in the deal.

That won't get it done.

ClutchCity 11-30-2011 01:31 AM

I don't think there's a team out there that can match a offer of Bynum + fillers.

Not saying he's going to end up in LA (mainly because of the PR nightmare that would cause to Orlando), but I don't think Magic would find a better deal...

hm deron and howard, who else would they have though :S

Bynum > Lopez. It's not even close. Bynum is better offensively, defensively, and on the boards. Bynum + Odom...Lakers would offer that for Dwight + Bass.

No team can match that.

Williams
Morrow
Turkoglu
Hump
Howard

Bench: Farmar, Vujacic, Wright, Gadzuric, James, Graham

Their bench sucks and i'm not sold on Hump yet, and well....Turkoglu is a disaster. I do like Morrow, but really they'd have to make a couple more moves to be taken seriously.

That team sucks badly.

I've been saying this for some time now. Consider the fact that Magic can replace the best center in the league with the second best, and get more players in return to build the team around Bynum. When you consider the situation for both Dwight and the Magic organization (from a straight business standpoint, ignoring public relations), the Lakers are the easiest chose. Magic get a defensive anchor who's a great low post player (much better than Howard) and a great rebounder. Obviously his health is an issue though.

Then you consider what that's like for Dwight. The dude talks about Kobe like he has a crush on him. He's said on many occasions he'd love to play alongside Kobe and Los Angeles is the perfect city to complement his Hollywood personality. Lakers and the Bulls trading Noah + Deng are the only options that would make the destination team immediate contenders. Makes it so much easier on Gasol and Kobe too. And with Mike Brown's focus on DEFENCE, I mean that's just scary when you have Dwight, Kobe, Artest on at the same time...

Pick up Baron Davis after he's amnestied, and this team becomes possibly the most dangerous pick and roll team in the game.

I know, I'm just dreaming :sigh:

Baron wont happen, he will probably be picked up from waivers

Don Vito 11-30-2011 08:49 AM

Not gonna happen. The magic can net much more than that.

Bynum is also made of porcelain. I would avoid him like the plague if I were looking for a long-term cornerstone. I can't see the Magic letting Howard go for someone so high-risk.

but when you know you're losing howard?

who would you go for?

ValanciunasFanboy 11-30-2011 10:35 AM

55 games a year of Bynum or Brook Lopez+serious cap relief...
hmm.... I think I take the Nets offer.

Both of those deals suck though. There will be something better.
Last spring everyone was talking about Bynum+Pau for Dwight+Arenas. Now that's a decent deal. Except Arenas will be gone before that now with amnesty.

How about Eric Gordon+DeAndre Jordan + lottery pick from Clippers (their own and Minnesota's)? Add Chris Kaman, Turkoglu and Randy Foye for some cap relief.
Now that's a decent deal.

That was my first thought as Bynum has played only one full season and the second is the fact that Bynum's ego is becoming monstrous - he hasn't done anything yet to warrant it. His career stats are 10.5/7.1/1.5 and yes, he does impact the game in many other ways but as the Orlando GM I wouldn't touch Bynum for the above reasons.

On an aside, isn't the new Buss running the team in love with Bynum and wants him around? Let's be honest, Kobe does not like Bynum - Although Laker Nation would kill Buss if he traded Kobe (at least I would). IMO, if I were the Lakers, I would go after Marc Gasol and bring him back there. M.Gasol's play-off averages of 15/11.2/2.2 are very good, his career is 12.6/7.8/.9, he knows how to play with his brother obviously, Kobe has stated that it was too bad the Lakers had to trade him for his brother, has great character and is generally healthy.

A line of M.Gasol, P.Gasol, Artest, Kobe, Fisher with Odom off the bench is pretty good - and the Lakers get to keep their core generally intact plus maintaining one of the best 6th men in the league still. If the Lakers scoop a pg to replace Fisher I think the Lakers will be set for awhile and be dominate.

Edit: Was thinking of the combination of Bynum and Randolph, that could be scary good or quickly implode from their egos. The defence of Bynum would certainly elevate that team if he stays healthy (big IF) and their rebounding would be devastating.

I remember the days when Bynum was being talked about in a trade for Bosh.... that would have been a huge steal for us.

We should have just drafted Bynum instead of CV and had him play with Bosh - but Bynum in his Prada sunglasses and mink coat didn't want to play for us - would've been a strong front court despite the injuries.

Bynum, Bosh, MoPete, Jalen, JC - That would have been a decent line-up for the 05-06 season

Alex 11-30-2011 12:45 PM

LOL.
