Nets Nenad Krstic likely to join Thunder

Five months after leaving New jersey to pursue fame and fortune in Moscow, Nenad Krstic is returning to the NBA. But unless something drastic happens, it won't be with the Nets.

A restricted free agent, the Serbian center is on the verge of signing a three-year, $15.58 million offer sheet with Oklahoma City, and when the Nets receive official documentation Monday morning, they'll have seven days to either match it or let him play with the Thunder.

As of Friday, the Thunder revealed no ulterior motive: They want the 25-year-old Krstic, and they want to give the Nets no other options other than to match it or pass on it. They have not called with any sign-and-trade proposals.

"They have not indicated to us that they'd like to do anything regarding a sign-and-trade," Nets president Rod Thorn said. "So we either match it or we don't. Their attitude seems to be, 'We're going to sign him, and you do what you want to.'"

It is very unlikely the Nets will match the offer sheet -- if for no other reason than they are already front-loaded, and they would have to eat an existing contract, as they already have the NBA maximum of 15.

Then there is the other money issue: The Nets are wary of adding to their 2010 payroll, and Krstic's offer sheet includes salaries of $4.78 million this season, $5.2 million next year, and a cap-clogging $5.6 million for 2010-11 -- so structured because the Thunder expected the Nets not to invest so much in Krstic during their cap-clearing summer.

On one hand, Krstic would fit in very well with the Nets offense, which emphasizes shooting big men. On the other hand, he still hasn't fully recovered from the torn ACL suffered 24 months ago: He was only averaging 22 minutes per game for Moscow Triumph, and 12 points in a second-rate league in Russia.

"We've got seven days," Thorn said. "We'll give it some thought when we receive the offer sheet."

Jarvis Hayes returned Friday night after a four-game absence, and he's had just about enough from his strained left hamstring.

"It's tricky," the backup wing said. "Sometimes you don't think you strain it so bad, then you try to run, and it feels like there's a midget pulling on your coattail."

Yi Jianlian is getting more scrutiny from his head coach these days, which is only natural for a starting power forward who has managed a grand total of seven points (on 3-for-17 shooting) in his past three games.

The most obvious sign was in Wednesday's loss to Utah, when Yi played only 4½ minutes in the second quarter before Lawrence Frank yanked him out of the game, and only six minutes in the entire second half.

"There are times when guys aren't doing exactly what you need them to do, and they learn that minutes aren't just given out," the coach said. "Yi ... is a player with huge upside. But he's still learning and developing."

It's now likely a trade will go down early next week.

No please no. I hate that trade, maybe if it was something different but if we do that trade OKC automatically wins it(the trade)

If the Thunder can peel Krstic off Russia, why can't we do the same to get someone like Pargo? He was a great backup PG for CP3

Kristic was pretty bad in Russia and he had a possibility to go to the NBA in his contract and old crazy coach of his team.
Pargo as I know (just rumors) hasn't such possibility and has very respectable coach (Blatt)
