I saw 2 basketball courts in Italy when I was there for two weeks, and I was looking hard. I saw two other nets, one in a gated driveway, and one on the side wall of a store. I didn't see anyone actually playing basketball for the full two weeks.

When I went to Spain in the summer of '96, there was a huge gym with basketball nets in a tiny little village with a population of maybe several hundred people, anybody could go and play at any time. I was kind of surprised, but basketball is pretty big there. I was there for a few hours a day.

in Europe, in general, you don't see bball played at parks, on the street or people with jerseys
from my experience I would say Serbian's like bball the most

The countries that follow basketball the most are Spain, Italy, Greece and ex-yugoslavian countries. In the rest I would say is not very big. Particulary in Spain, basketball is huge. Not remotely near soccer of course, but a little over tennis, biking, F1 and motoGP, depends on what part you are.
In my neighborhood, in a radious of 5 to 15 minute walk theres like 10 public streetcourts, more if you count school yards. And in the afternoons they are always full.
