NBA To Release 09-10 Schedule On Tuesday

The NBA’s 2009-10 regular-season schedule is slated to be sent to all 30 teams on Aug. 3, according to a league memo.

The schedule will be released to the public at 1 p.m. ET on Aug. 4.

Okay, so Doug Smith has already hinted that the season opener may be the Cavs, but I wonder if there any other special dates. It would be cool if we played the Magic on Christmas :haha: Probably not going to happen. I've heard rumors that the Cavs could play the Lakers on Christmas, though. :mischief:

Rene_13 08-02-2009 12:40 PM

My guess is that we will still have the most difficult schedule over the first 20-25 games in the entire NBA.

finstock 08-02-2009 12:44 PM

Cavs and Lakers on Christmas..so cliche. I hate nationally televised games. Same teams over and over. I'd rather watch the Kings/Thunder than Lakers/Cavs any day.

The problem with that is the fact that you're basically the only one who would want that matchup instead. It is the majority who still are intrigued by the top teams battling it out, on a holiday or any day. Though, maybe they could throw some Orlando vs. San Antonio in there, rather than Kobe's ugly face. Sorry, I just hate Kobe.

Dark Knight 08-02-2009 12:50 PM

Its just because it takes a hardcore fan to watch mediocre team, where as any homer can flip on the TV and jump on the Laker bandwagon or a Cavs bandwagon.

Rene_13 08-02-2009 04:24 PM

But that's what they want, a sheer volume of viewers which allows them to sell their advertisements at a higher price. I'll watch any basketball if I have the time to do so, it's just that's how the networks look at it.

The league loves...making our road schedule for the first 2 months the hardest. :cwm34:

It's called business. Welcome to reality.

Shucks, you've exposed me a complete renaissance of thought. I never knew they chose teams because of their marketabilily. I thought it was random selection, and the same teams persisted to be lucky again and again. :frustrated:

What I meant to convey was that I refuse to watch ABC -with the exception of the playoffs. They just run the same teams out there every week in a recurring cycle.

BRING BACK NBA ON NBC!!!

Yeah I agree that there is way too many Cavs and Lakers games on national TV. You gotta throw in some Blazers/Magic/Spurs games in there vs different teams too.

Then again, if the top 5 powerhouses are playing one another, especially for this year, its necessary to show that game because the fight for the top spot is going to be nuts with the stacked 5 teams next year. But in other years Id like to see some more variety instead of Lakers/Cavs 35 times.

And in terms of the raps sched, I cant wait to pick the games I want to go to. I got a sick set up with a seaosn ticket holder where I get to choose the games I want before anyone else so I'm looking forward to going.

You were never accused of being unable to comprehend basic business principles, though you presented an entirely unrealistic option based on what's been stated and restated. That was the initial purpose of the comment in the first place. Anyways, NBA on NBC wasn't much better. I don't know which Marv Albert you viewed, but the one that commentated on the games I watched, did so while speaking of the Spurs and Kings (who were like today's Boston vs. Dallas). Just as an example.

Since I was under the assumption ABC execs do not scour these forums for opinions pertaining to improving their product, it was not my intention to scope realistic examples. That being said, I proposed the most unrealistic one I could conjure. I would like to see some of the lottery teams play more frequently though. The NBA does a poor job marketing young talent. You rarely get to see the top rooks play on National TV. I guess I should just upgrade my cable haha.

The mere fact NBC had Marv Albert and Bill Walton makes them far superior. Mark Jackson is the worst color man ever! And besides, who would you rather have call a Schweinsteiger goal? Marv, or Breen? "Schweinsteiger from downtown...YES!..And it was a gorgeuous move".

Rene_13 08-03-2009 07:03 PM

I'd rather have Ray Hudson over all of those guys, but since that's not a possibility either, I'd take Marv. Your certainly right on the NBA's lack of desire to market some of the lower teams and enable them to get coverage. It's clear that we're suffering from the same ills as teams like the Kings and Timberwolves. TSN2 was playing some quality games over the course of last season, too bad I only got it on Rogers in June.

Rene_13 08-03-2009 07:04 PM

Just to make it clear, a Schweinsteiger goal is nearly perfect as it is. Commentary is not even necessary, especially against Portugal.

jermyzy 08-03-2009 09:42 PM

Looks like some teams couldn't wait :p

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NBA has fined three teams an undisclosed amount for leaking details of their schedules before the league released them.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves were penalized, an official with knowledge of the decisions told The Associated Press on Monday. The official requested anonymity because the fines weren't publicly announced.

The NBA will release its 2009-10 schedule on Tuesday afternoon. The league forbids teams to release any details before then.
