I heard it's because of the on-going construction in T-Dot and how the ACC lacks in size to hold such an event.

Why? Because they don't want Knicks fans voting in 40 yr old Marcus Camby?

Forwards + centers will be grouped together as "front court players".

Rogers & Bell own the Raps.
Size is no issue with the Rogers Centre. This can't be the issue anymore.
They could have the All-Star game, 3pt, skills & dunk comps at the dome.
Then the rest at the ACC

The NBA just doesn't want it in TO till every US team has had it 3 or 4 times.

No, you have the Rogers Centre, but you also have to have the Convention Centre open for additional promotional events.

Plus, if you hold those events at the Rogers Centre, you run the real risk of it not selling out and making this city look extremely poor and reaffirming the image of the city as one that only cares about a certain sport. Hell, we have a hard enough time selling out for an NFL game, are you going to stack the dome with people interested in a skills competition? No.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the Auto Show runs the same week and they book it 2 or 3 years in advance (if not further). If the Convention Centre was free along with the Rogers Centre and along with the ACC you could have it here.

Really, it's a question of which event does/can bring more money into the city. Auto Show runs for a week. All-Star event runs for about 4-5 days. It'd be interesting to see what does better.

i dont think they'd have a hard time selling out the skydome for an all-star game. I dont see a reason not to bring it to Toronto. LA has it this year, New Orleans is getting it next year even though they just got it a few years back and I assume Barclays center will get it soon after that, which will mean Toronto still has to wait some years to get an all-star game.

Pretty surprised they didn't give it to us when VC was here in his heyday.... That would have been an ideal time.

I think the convention centre is under contract until about 2016 to the boat show or auto show or something like that and it goes on during the same time as ASW. Not sure on the details but bottom line is it's unavailable.

Really? You'd conceivably be looking at say 55,000 people potentially at an all-star event. A premium event with premium ticket pricing. Once you get rid of all the comps & corporate seating, you're still looking at trying to sell out say, 40,000 tickets. Again, the Bills in Toronto (the NFL which is far more popular than the NBA) has had a hard time trying to sell out.

Without a doubt. A lot of seats will be filled with tourists and celebrities and other nba players. And when you think about how easy the acc is to sell out when Lin is in town or Kobe or Lebron or Durant it would only make sense that you could fill the Rogers centre with enough fans, nba players, corps, tourists and celebs to fill every seat. Toronto is a big city close to many other big cities and if Orlando and New Orleans can sell out stadiums I can't see why Toronto couldn't

Considering how All-star games are played, it's not a deterrence. You might as well omit all bigs.

At this point, why the heck are we still segregating by position? Have the top 5 guys be picked by the fans, the coaches can fill in the positional gaps as they see fit.

First off, we don't have an NFL team in Toronto, they brought up the Bills, and lets be honest, the only reason they didn't sell out was because they sucked the last few years....who wants to go see a football team thats from another city, that also sucks? No one....which is why they had a hard time selling tickets. If it was the Toronto Bill, you bet your ass those games would have been sold out.....especially if they were actually able to achieve a .500+ record.

Let's not kid ourselves here, any team that is decent will get support in this city. You bring an event like the NBA all-star game (admittedly its kinda boring, but its porb the most exciting, action backed all-star event of any major pro sports: baseball, NFL, Hockey.) and it will for sure sell out no problem about that. Lets not forget here that paying a "premium" price for NBA games and events, is about 1/2-1/3 the price of hockey events. Lets also not forget that we have had an NHL and MLB all star game here and they weren't half full events......

Lets also not forget that its not like people don't like basketball here. There just not over obsessive about buying overpriced seats to watch shitty sub .400 teams (A-la-Maple Leafs). When the raps were last doing good, were were not having any trouble selling out games....its just that for the last 3-4 seasons we have been total ass...
