Default NBA DPOY Award

it needs to be abolished

top three in voting

Dwight Howard
LeBron James
Dwyane Wade

how can players who are rarely relied on to defend their position effectively throughout the course of a complete game be in consideration for the award?

fuck the individual award, make a team one if anything. i swear the whole voting process is trying to make legends out of the undeserving.

i dunno funk. lebron has turned into a hell of a defender, mostly due to his physique and speed. i hear you about wade and possibly howard as well, but i think lebron may deserve it... although battier is probably at least as good with a tenth of the physical stature.

Lebrons defense has improved but not to the point of being a top 5 defender IMO. I would give it to Battier for sure.

all you have to do is take 5-10 ill-advised 30footers a year, forget to get back on D, hustle down the court and make a semi-spectacular block. Do that and you get to be a top-3 defender in the league?

lebron shuts u down and drops 30 on u, case closed.

Also, look at his steals, his blocks, his +/-... you better realize he is now the best defender at his position, amaizing considering ppl thought his D was weak just 2 years ago. Now when he starts focusing on his long range jumpers n 3s, the world may explode.

Honestly, i dont think of alot of you watch cav's game to really appreciate it. Ridic to think he shouldnt be there, or D12 doesnt make almost every guard in the league think twice b4 going inside.

I mentioned this same thing when it was announced. It bugs the hell out of me too. Lebron I could give it too, but then if he's getting the MVP is it necessary? Give it to a guy that makes a difference on that end of the court every night all night long while allowing the legends to have more in the tank.

I'm thrilled that Kobe didn't get it.

Great season by LBJ.

Are you kidding me?? Wade I understand... but no one goes into the lane on dwight howard... he leads the league in blocks and defensive rebounding .. both HUGE ASPECTS of defence... I don't know what you're talking about.

And I agree with Ugo I saw alot of Cavs games this year and Lebron would gaurd anyone 1-4 that they needed to stop. Tony Parker, Wade, Kobe etc. Cleveland is one of the best defensive teams in the league and didn't miss a step when Ben Wallace went out. Sure, defence is a team thing... but there are guys that anchor their defences. And Lebron and Dwight are two of those guys.

Dwight does not consistently anchor the defense. He gets caught up in other things all too much. And the criticism is not necessarily against any of those guys, it's that nobody other than a big name star shows up in the voting.

Watch last nights Boston-Orlando game, you might think throwing balls 15 seats into the stands is all show, but Boston (a vet, defending world championship team) was clearly intimidated by Dwight in the 1st half, and it caused them to play very badly imo

Boston showed why they are the champs, but the point is, blocks arent useless, lane intimidation works, even on vets at times, D12 makes ppl flat out scared to come in the paint at times, and even when they do, they often dash up. I expect Boston to have a stronger will and not let it happen to them again.

Lane intimidation is more important @ home though LX. Boston's fans weren't going to cheer when Dwight swats one into the rafters.

But in Orlando.. those massive blocks are as much momentum changers or energy boosts as a 360 dunk. Dwight and Lebron are the #1 and 2 defenders in the league I think.

On top of that fact, that guys like Battier are at a natural disadvantage defensively since he doesnt make his man work as hard on that end either, dealing with LBJ or D12 is just a nightmare on both ends.

Lane intimidation doesn't have as much to do with the crowd as it has to do with a seven foot, ultimate fighter-built pogo stick just straight scaring guys.

I'll take the job Battier did through the whole game - for real - and not in player's frightened minds, over Dwight shitting his pants over his team blowing a 28 point lead.

if i were to build a team, that would only be on the defensive end (obv hypothetical), i would choose d12 first, that's prob why i agree with this pick
