Exclamation NBA approves jersey ads, replay additions

Quote:
LAS VEGAS -- The NBA Board of Governors approved a new look for uniforms and a couple of changes in the use of video replay, commissioner David Stern announced Thursday night.

Stern met with the media after the Board of Governors held their annual summer meeting, and said the league is looking to add possibly $100 million in revenue by permitting small advertising patches on uniforms starting in the 2013-14 season.

"The view is that the teams would need a significant time; one, to sell the patch; and number two, for adidas to manufacture the uniforms, because the patch that would be on the players' uniforms would also appear on the jerseys at retail," said deputy commissioner Adam Silver, who is handling the uniform change.

Silver said there are revenue projections from European soccer teams the NBA could use.

Its not a huge surprise, most euro leagues for most sports do it, and so do a lot of other sports. NBA is all about money so it would of surprised me if they didn't do it.

According to reports, the NBA will being introducing 2-inch by 2-inch advertisements on the shoulders of jerseys during the 2013-2014 season. And according to my graphics editing program, that is a 22 square. (You might get a different measurement, depending on monitor resolution settings and other technology nonsense, but the point stands that this is about as big as the ads will be.) Somehow, I think we will be able to live with this, since the only thing that is really bugging me is that this image is a different width than every other image and video on this site.

Meh, every league does it in one way or another.

NHL plasters it on the boards, NFL puts it on the turf, Baseball puts it behind homeplate, soccer has it all over their jersey's. Advertising is everywhere. I would much rather see a couple sponsors put on the NBA floors than have it on the Jersey's.

Well Soccer does it but they have don't have commercials during play. If NBA would do it and get rid of TV time outs I'd be all for it.

Problem is in NA u have to compete with the NFL machine. They feel fine being trapped in a stadium for 4 hours and endless amounts of commericals during their tv broadcast

thats never going to happen. only positive is that it should prevent more TV timeouts being added to games.

Why is a jersey sacred? It in itself is advertisement for a brand. All that's being added is another brand. Not a big deal.
