Default NBA to alter traveling rules

Quote:
NBA players will be able to take two steps before they have to stop, pass or shoot this season.

The NBA has put into writing a rule allowing players on the move to gather the ball, after driving or catching it, and then take two steps. Throughout NBA history, the rulebook said players could take one step.

The new rule reads, in part: "A player who receives the ball while he is progressing or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball."

It is believed to be the first time any league, at any level anywhere in the world, has explicitly allowed two steps.

Its going to look really awkward if a player catches it on the wing who isnt moving, then takes a hop step and ISNT called for a travel, heh.

Most players at any level take at least 1 step when they catch the ball o nthe run or even before they dribble anyway. Hopefully this ruling doesnt make things out of hand but really, this isnt a big change to anything.

all they are doing is making the official rule be in line with the way they have been calling the game for 20 years. we won't notice a difference.

They were taking travelling a little more serious last year. Now its official. Players can do whatever they want. At least now the Bargnanis and Kapono wont get those calls like the Lebrons and Wades dont do.

you're right Bel, but now Lebron can take 6 steps on the break, and crabwlak his ass all the way to the finals.

I hate that the league changes because it's players can't follow the rules. Cop out city.

Enforcement of the one-step rule has been hit-or-miss at every level of basketball. Archival footage shows NBA greats, from Magic Johnson and Pete Maravich to Bob Cousy and Julius Erving, getting away with two steps. Borgia, whose father was also an NBA official, said he cannot remember a time when NBA referees did not allow two steps.

not the point. AT ALL.

Point is, they are mandating an idea. That idea is that they can take more steps, they were already taking two, and geting away with it. Now it will just be worse.

Actuallys comparing the exact second a foot touches or leaves the floor and comparing that to the exact second someone goes from dribbling to picking up their dribble is nearly impossible.

Officials call the moves, and as Trane said they've always allowed two steps.

They aren't going to start allowing three steps.

Players won't be able to make up new moves to take advantage of this rule, because they've been playing by this rule their entire lives. It's just finally written down now.

I officiated a few games with some old men who called travelling the way it was in the rule book, and it was damn silly. It left kids confused and coaches angry.

I see what you're saying SJ.

But look at it this way.

The written rule for travelling as it was before didn't mean sheeit.

Now they can call it by the book again. The officials don't have to give an inch beyond what the written rule is. Before it was all about their own interpretation of the game.
