Couple of things wrong with these IMO...

1) Paul over Rondo for best defensive PG? Really?

2) Kobe? 2nd team all-D? He hasn't been an elite defender for years now.

3) Chandler wins DPOTY but doesn't make the 1st team? WTF?

4) No Iguodala or Shumpert?

CP3 out - Danny Green in
Kobe out - Thabo S in

yeah - too much of the defensive awards get based on reputation. You could see how much Kobe's defense has fallen off the last couple of years.

Yeah, he still shows it in flashes but he just is not the same defensive player anymore. Kobe over Iggy is a travesty.

Kobe probably should be on there - everybody else I agree with.

CP3 is a great defender.

Kobe and CP3 are both decent defenders... but elite? As in top 10 in the league?

No chance in hell.

ClutchCity 05-23-2012 03:16 PM

Where's Bargnani?

INSIDER 05-23-2012 03:18 PM

kobe doesnt take charges.

I think it's very realistic to argue that CP3 is the best defensive point guard in the game.

Kobe...I wouldn't of put him in there because over the course of 66 games he isn't relied on to be a stopper, but when comes to guarding guys like DWade and other elite 2s, Kobe is as good as any.

I don't have as big a problem with CP3, but I'm not sure who I'd put there ahead of him. Bradley or Shumpert perhaps. Maybe try to sneak Iggy in there as a G.

Kobe is now one All-Defense team away for tying TD for most of all time. This needs to stop. He hasn't been deserving for at least 2 years.

I've seen very little evidence to support that claim. I think that Shumpert and Bradley showed me more at the PG position that Paul did.

I would have agreed with you 3 or 4 seasons ago... but now? Nope.

I don't think NBA coaches are swayed much by past reputation - these guys know what's going on moreso than anybody else.

I'd be curious to know who the 1 coach was who voted for Boozer (yes, srs.).

I can't believe that Thibs would be that delusional.

bjjs 05-23-2012 03:47 PM

By the way, Iggy had more points then Kobe 19-17. But classified as a forward vs. a guard.

Maybe a coach just voted for the Bull's starting lineup since their team defense was so good. Noah/Boozer/Deng/Rose.

I would put Marion ahead of Deng.

INSIDER 05-23-2012 03:49 PM

i think kobe gets more attention for his defensive mentality moreso than his defensive skill. he's always the one who wants to take on the best player on the other team and forces himself to guard the best guy. his stats arent fantastic, but he never backs down from the challenge, and thats where he tallies most of the votes, im guessing. staticitically he's in the pack, but nowhere near the top.

He doesn't really do that anymore though. At least not for long stretches.

And whoever thinks all the coaches actually vote themselves is delusional. I also believe they also can't vote for their own players, so Thibs couldn't have been the one to vote for Boozer.

Wouldn't argue with Marion over Deng, I don't think you can go wrong with either of those guys.

ClutchCity 05-23-2012 05:09 PM

Even if Thibs WAS allowed to vote for his own players, he STILL wouldn't vote for Boozer.

He'd choose Noah/Gibson/Asik over him (as big men) before even thinking about selecting Booze.

Especially considering there have been quite a few late game defensive situations during which he subbed out Boozer in favour of putting in Gibson.

Yup. There have also been long stretches in the 4th where Boozer has been benched due to his shitty defence.

moremilk 05-23-2012 06:27 PM

Um ... these players were voted by the head coaches. I'd think twice before calling the results a travesty.
