Navarro Signs With FC Barcelona?

WOW, talk about screwing over the already screwed Grizzlies if its infact true which it sounds like it is.

From the RealGM:

Navarro, who earned $538,000 with the Grizzlies last season, was swayed by a deal that will pay him between $20million and $24 million over the next four years.
Who could blame him?

Oh snap. I would have jumped at that too. That's like the MLE. I'm sure someone would have offered him the MLE.

Memphis wasn't going to give him that much though.

The shitty thing for the is the Grizz is they still owe the Wizards a 1st rounder for him. Fortunately for them, it's lottery protected.

Yeah it was confirmed yesterday. he has signed 5 years for 25 million or something like that. He was paid only 500.000 dollars, that in Euros is not a lot. Im pretty sure is more family reasons though. Apparently him and his wife and daughters werent enjoying memphis that much.

i feel terrible for memphis but I do understand him

He could have made the same money on another team as a 7th man if he waited a bit. Maybe he just didnt have the balls to play in the big leagues for years to come. If I made it that far as a player I'd want to play in the best league and prove myself, I dont think using the I dont like Memphis thing is a valid excuse because in another 15 days he could have went wherever he wanted.

He probably doesnt like the US generally. I garantee you its not lack of balls. I have never been a big fan of him but he is the best spanish player, he has always been a clutch performer. He probably doesnt like the roll of "3 point shooter and nothing more" he will have.

I was going to say, maybe he doesn't like the US and really, he's already proved himself as a quite capable player on the world stage.

Well maybe he should work extremely hard on his game in the offseason and become more of an all around player than he'd play more and have a bigger role. He IS one dimensional.

Sorry but you are wrong cause you havent seen him play enough. If you had seeing him play for one game in barcelona you wouldnt think that. And this comes as I said from not a big fan of him.

i jsut read an interview of him. He said, he enjoyed his time in the NBA, but he prefers to make history in Barcelona.

Any player can look a lot better playing vs inferior opponents. I bet Joey Graham would average 30 ppg in that league and look like Jordan off the dribble.

If he doesnt want to play in the best league in the world I think thats just him jumping the gun and wanting to go to a place where he'll be the star instead of a role guy. Its the same thing as an NBA player complaining about minutes and their role but in a different fashion, and the NBA player in this case would get ripped for it so I think Navarro should too.

I just dont get how you can finally get to the highest level and then after one year with a shit team decide to pack up because you want to be a star in a league with far less talent instead of playing vs the best. Dont you think when you get to the top youd want to stay there? Maybe hes just not wired right.

I actually think he should stay. but he doesnt want to, and I cant blame for it. He has a lot of reasons to leave. Navarro is the best offensive player in the spanish national team. I have absolutely no doubt that if he had gone at a younger age he would be as good as ginobili.
And in international competitions he has out played him frecuently.

Also the USA is not the centre of the universe and most people outside of it don't hold it or it's professional sports in as high regard as North Americans like to think it should be.

And he didn't finally get to the highest level. The opportunity has been there for him for a long time. He came and tried it and didn't like it, so what...

I understand the whole comfort zone thing, but if he was a true compettitor I just think he'd want to stay and play against the best.

And I dont think at 6'3 he could have ever been as good as Gino. Its too easy to gameplan for a shorter type SG.

Sucks for Memphis this year huge.

First they get rid of their only superstar for some bonafide scrub like Kwame Brown (hehe, Stephen A. Smith) and now this...

Yeah but what 6'3 european shooting guard has become bigtime in the NBA in the past couple of decades really? When youre a tweener no matter what your ethnicity its hard to make it in the league. Just look at a guy like Quincy Douby, hes a knockdown shooter and decent defender yet hes the Kings 11th man because hes 6'2. You have to be insanely good if youre a tweener to make up for your deficiencies at the defensive end just due to your height alone.

Seeing as there wasn't really a serious influx of European players into the NBA until the beginning of this last decade, asking a question like that is kind of silly.

Well, 6'3 SG american players too. The only two I can think of in the league that start right now are Ellis and Wade and theyre unbelieveable talents. After that most of them are either warming the bench or out of the league.

Off of the top of my head there's Iverson, Ellis, Wade, Ben Gordon, Daniel Gibson, Pargo plays the 2 a lot, Louis Williams, Jason Terry, Barbosa, Luther Head, Bobby Jackson would you consider Eddie House or Boykins a PG or a SG?

Christ, Joe Dumars was a 2 guard and he's ony 6'2 or 6'3, same with Vinnie Johnson .
