interesting stuff. so what's a "dog" and what's a "salad eater"?
although it sounds like Shaq's actual stories are the gold in that book, while his definitions / ideas and conclusions might be best to ignore.

any of our posters are welcome to respond to whichever posts they like. if you are annoyed, please feel free to put him on ignore. that's what it is there for.

and if you can't respond without throwing out insults, you can bet on me or one of the other guys editing frequently. certainly you've been around long enough to know how this place works.

I think Nash isn't the type of player who calls out other players if they make a mistake or are not following a play. I've seen other players do this who are actually pretty quiet like Duncan and Billups.

Look at 2:49 and onward and you'll know what I mean. I've never seen Nash being vocal in this type of way.

Dennis Rodman certainly didn't think Robinson was an alpha dog.

salad eater in shaq's eyes is an athlete who looks chiseled, shaq is not one of those guys. like zach randolph, marc gasol and glen davis, no matter how much they work out they could never achieve that type of body.

dog i think is just shaq's way of calling a dude his boy

sorry man... my intent wasn't to annoy you. I'll avoid your posts in the future. It's not a real loss to me so it works for both of us.

Cheers.

If I annoy anybody else, glad you're able to handle it and if not, let me know too!

so "Nash was an alpha but not a dog" would mean that Nash was fine except he and Shaq weren't buddies?
It would make sense, although I'm not sure where to place the "gets mad and takes a 3 and gives 5 dimes" part then.

Anyway, I think I'm starting to lose interest in Shaq's definitions..

1. Nash has always struck me as a guy who's "risen to the occasion" more often than not.... shit, the guy drained 3s with 1 eye swollen shut and played with a busted nose that was bleeding all over the place.... If that doesn't inspire you as a teammate then you really need to quit basketball.

2. After reading some of that crap about Penny Hardaway I really don't feel sorry for him at all. It's a real shame that some of these guys (Francis! Marbury!) ddin't realize that the team and the game itself was bigger than their skills... and not the other way around.

I took it as the "alpha" referred to talent. So if you were an "alpha", you were a superstar talent. The "dog" referred to if you had that killer instinct.

nash is a vocal dude, he is the PG, he scolds, but probably scolds behind the scenes. there a reason why he's considered the 50th greatest player of all time. shaq's idea of being a leader is to get into the face of everyone, that includes the opposition. it is shaq's book, that's what made him successful so much in LA and miami, and he felt nash should have done the same. to talk shit and raise expectations then meet them
