Steve Nash reportedly considering midseason retirement
Posted November 19, 2013
By Marc Weinreich

Two-time MVP Steve Nash is considering a medical retirement this season as he continues to battle chronic back issues that have limited him to 22 minutes per game over six appearances this year, his lowest average since 1997.

According to a tweet Tuesday from veteran NBA beat writer Peter Vecsey, it is believed that Nash is possibly left with no option but to call it a career because of the lingering pain.

A basketball legend, sad to see him go. Was pissed at him for not coming here, but after seeing how things worked out, not so much now.

I think he will play out the rest of the season before he retires.

Raps dodged a bullet. He seems to be having a good influence on Blake as a player-coach at least.

Trade him back to Phoenix! Their medical staff CAN rebuild him! It can't end like this. Not like this.

Trade Lowry for Nash.. then have Nash retire soon as landing in Toronto... then have open tryouts for the public to play PG for the Raptors for the rest of the season... continue with Operation Tank.

Having an ordinary joe play on the team will give fans more reason to watch, lol. Like watching a car accident.

I think the problem with that if he plays X number of games this season, his salary will count towards the cap next season, even if he retires at the end of this season.

I believe right now, he has played below X number of games this season, therefore his salary will only have to be paid this year if he retires before playing any more games.

I think that X is 10 games, meaning he can play 3 more games before he hits that threshold. Make those 3 games home games in the ACC.
