Default My thoughts: 2013/2014 regular season awards

Most valuable player: Kevin Durant.

I think it's clear for almost everyone that Kevin Durant is better this Season than LeBron James. Not much to say about this. 32 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 5.5 APG. Lead OKC to 2nd spot in the West.

*****

Rookie of the year: Michael-Carter Williams.

Although Philadelphia didn't have good season, MCW looks like glimmer of hope for Phily next season and in my opinion he was better than Oladipo. Lead Rookies in PPG, RPG and APG at once (not sure if still leads).

*****

Defensive player of the year: DeAndre Jordan.

Solid on D, strong, jumps high, blocks, rebounds. I don't know (it's my subjective opinion) but I like prefer him more than Ibaka for this award. 13.7 RPG, 2.51 BPG.

*****

Most improved player of the year: Goran Dragic or Kyle Lowry. Still not sure.

Goran Dragic took important role in Phoenix as Bledsoe dropped out due to injury for majority of the season and led by Dragic, slight underdogs Phoenix Suns are making a playoff push.

Kyle Lowry was a big factor for Toronto in this probably franchise best season. Toronto was also slight underdogs, but here where they are - in the playoffs.

*****

Sixth man of the year: D.J. Augustin

Rose injured, but PG is definately not the weakest position of Bulls because of this guy. Plays a significant role of the bench, clutch performer. 14.9 PPG, 5.0 APG.

*****

Coach of the year: Gregg Popovich

Nothing to say much here. The big trio of spurs looks old, but Spurs still manage to win 50+ times and be an absolute leader of the league.

*****

Opinions?
Sorry for my English if it's not good enough.

welcome to the forum!

i'd agree with everything except for MIP. Lowry I don't think is a MIP. he's shown to be this good in the past. Ok maybe not THIS good, but close to it. IMO it's between dragic and whomever else (haven't followed the league outside raps well). possibly DD? he'll definitely be looked at.

KL, GD or DD all could have cases for MIP. All have made substantial improvements this year.

Although I think KD very well should get MVP - typically it goes to the best player on the #1 team in the EC or WC.

Most Improved should be going to Lance Stephenson, as much as I hate to admit it.

MVP: Kevin Durant
ROY: MCW
DPOY: Joakim Noah
MIP: Gerald Green
6MOTY: Markieff Morris
Coach: Jeff Hornacek

MVP- Kevin Durant is the clear choice. His game evolved again this year, and he was spectacular when OKC needed him to step up the most without Westbrook.

ROY- I like Oladipos game more than MCW, but MCW got more minutes and opportunity, and thus his production was better. I have no doubts though that Oladipo will be the better player in the future, and if he received the same minutes and usage he would have outproduced MCW.

DPOY- Noah is the clear choice here. CHI is an awesome defensive team, and Noah really played at a different level since the Deng trade, leading CHI to the 4 seed.

MIP- This should be an award for players who have been in a league at least 4 years who have really stepped up their production from the previous year to now. I think guys like Lowry and Dragic were this good for the past few years but never got a clear opportunity to be primary guys, and thus in being given that role this year by their teams, they excelled. Whereas guys like Stephenson and Green really improved their overall floorgame and forced their coaches to use them more in the offence and they've taken off with their opportunities. Green especially was so erratic, and his defence and effort was deplorable in the past, and he's had the biggest jump IMO, since he went from a guy who doesnt and shouldnt play, to one of the better shooting guards in the NBA. His consistency in his role has been awesome.

6th man- I think the choices come down to 3 guys, Markieff Morris, Jamal Crawford, and Taj Gibson. Since Jamal had so many starts with JJ out, it juiced his numbers a bit, so that's why I didn't choose him. It was a difficult choice between Morris and Gibson as they have similar production, but I chose Morris because he played a bigger role IMO in the Suns success when they really got into the thick of things in the race for the 8th seed, and was playing 30+ mpg with big production. Taj is a close second, but his production wasn't as consistent.

Coach- As others have pointed out, Pop could and should win it every year, but that won't be the case unfortunately despite Pop being head and shoulders above everyone. Hornacek is my pick because he really geared his system on both sides of the ball to the talent and skills at his disposal, and really got the most out of his teams talent.

MVP: Durant
ROY: Carter-Williams
DPOY: Noah but Jordan will probably get it because of his rebounding on block numbers
MIP: Dragic
6thman: Markieff
Coach: Pop

(Though I would like to see either Casey or Hornacek get the award as Pop has already gotten it before.)

Hornacek shouldn't win coy. I don't care if phx has 47 wins, you should have to at least make the playoffs to be considered imo.

Everybody's all in on Oladipo over here. The Sixers hate runs deep in P-Town
