Lakers MWP out with a torn lateral meniscus

More good news for the Lakers....

Quote:
The Los Angeles Lakers took a serious setback Tuesday, when the team announced forward Metta World Peace has a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee. World Peace was injured during the Lakers' loss Monday to the Golden State Warriors, and the team announced in a news release that an MRI showed a meniscus tear. He will be flown to Los Angeles — the Lakers are on the road to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday — for further evaluation before a timetable for his return is determined

The loss of World Peace comes at an inopportune time. The Lakers are clinging to a one-game lead on the Utah Jazz for the eighth seed in the Western Conference playoffs, and with Pau Gasol finally healthy, coach Mike D'Antoni hoped to use the final weeks of the regular season to get his starting five reacquainted.

His D was overrated anyway. He never was a very good team defender and now he's way too slow to be consistently great at man defense. He still brought them energy and toughness but overall i think he was a negative player. The question is can D'Antoni figure out how to use their good players...

He's a great defender. Metta arguably was one of few only bright spots on the Lakers. He makes them better. and he fits in with every player's style. He's the only starter who plays his role right. Kobe and Nash, have their ball-dominant issue, playing out of role, and Gasol and Howard have their post, touches, paint issues. Metta never had any of that. He's the type of player Lakers need more of, him Clark, Jordan Hill, players who are good role players and who are good side pieces to the franchise players. Who's gunna replace him? Clark? What's the rotation gunna be now?

I agree - great defender and a solid role player for them. He is crucial to any playoff run they're going to have.

Metta does have an issue of doing too much and playing out of his role.

MWP used to be a great defender about 4-5 years ago. He's lost a few steps since then, and he really struggles against any good, quick SG/SF or a guy that can utilize screens to get open. Case and point, the GSW game vs Klay Thompson. MWP has been getting lit up all year by swingmen. Him and Kobe may be the worst 2/3 defensive duo in the NBA right now.

And offensively, he has his moments, but there's too many times where he tries to do too much instead of playing his role. He was playing a lot better earlier in the year when he was spotting up and taking mostly open 3 point shots, and the occasional postup which he's still ok at. Since mid season, he's been trying to get to the basket and take midrange shots off of the dribble, 2 things hes horrible at.

Sorry, I meant starting duos. It's moreso Kobe than Metta, but with their horrible help defence, it doesn't help Mettas style of defence because he has little to no help when he gets blown by because he plays so close and physical.

But Kobe has been absolutely abysmal this year. And someone on the team needs to call him out for it.

I keep hearing the comparison of "The Heat needed a year to play together".

The Heat were never this dysfunctional. And they made it to the finals. Lakers wont even make post season.

I loved watching the Warriors shut up the Laker sac-riders in their own building the other night.

I also went to the Lakers game at the ACC when Raps won, felt real nice budday. So sad when half the ACC is covered in yellow, felt like throwing up. So annoying.

Great news for the Mavs.

Praying they can sneak into that 8th seed and have yet another match up against the Spurs in the playoffs.
